India’s Fight Against Corona Enters Decisive Phase

By PRADEEP CHAMARIA

It’s middle of April, 2020 and the world is still worried because of the Corona virus. Corona has already taken away thousands of lives in China and was spreading like a forest fire around the globe. In India, we were not badly affected yet, but inspite of the efforts and lockdowns, the concerns were mounting.

Capital markets which were heading south are now trying to recuperate, employment sector is still looking miserable, news of extension of lockdowns in advanced countries like Italy, USA are pouring in and I am  getting restless. Our salaries for the last month have been paid but hopes for April and new opportunities are dying out.

In one line, Corona has affected people’s lives drastically. All of us are facing the grisly times that not even our great grand parents have seen as we have been negligent of the damages that Corona was going to cause to the human kind.

The timed is clicking away; more bad news from Europe is still worrying us. Figures are in five figures in India too, and the number of Corona patients still rising. And the second phase of lockdown was unavoidable and our govt. has announced it till 3rd May.

Indian govt. has been effectively tackling the situation and because of the efforts we are in a much better situation than the rest of the world. Indian govt. acted efficiently and India went into complete lockdown from March 25 after having an experimental lockdown on March 22. The instant effect of a lockdown was best seen in India and we kind off checked the spread of the deadly virus. India surprised the world and like always I felt proud to be an Indian!  Though it’s on a rise again today, but it is because of different reasons and we have been successful in containing that too and checked the community spread phase to a great extent.

The world is watching a lot of bad things happening around and the scene is getting gloomier. More than two million are affected today with one with thousands dead around the world. We are already facing economical meltdowns, piling up of huge garbage dumps of possibly infected waste like tissues and old face masks, etc.

Indian positivity

But India and her citizens are standing with their govt. and fighting the virus like true warriors. And the world is applauding us; applauding the way we are fighting with the only topic trending today on social media and intellectual circles is how India is maturely fighting with Corona.  We have been able to take timely steps in the initial stages itself whereas most of the European countries, despite a steep rise in the number of cases ignored the issues, and we see the consequences. India, considered a third world country till now is quickly gaining respect and recognition at the world stage.

India is one of the very few nations where govt. has taken action at the root levels itself. Lockdown and other timely pro-active actions gave flexibility to people in breaking the corona chain. A happy human is 100 time stronger than a unwell person, and to lift the moods of citizens during the lockdown times, pro-active activities like mass applauding of efforts of the health workers on March 22, and lighting up of candles/diyas/torch lights on April 5th boosted the morale of Indians highly and re-ignited the spirit to fight Corona with full vigour.

We are staying calm, not resorting to hoarding of essentials, even though we know that there will be scarcity, and we have been making arrangements of feeding the poor irrespective of their cast and religion and also making arrangements to feed the other inhabitants of mother earth- the stray animals and birds.

We are following social distancing through innovative methods of drawing circles and boxes. We are using Jugaads (unconventional options) to turn discarded train coaches into ICU wards, creating 10,000 bed mobile hospitals on these coaches, quick action in making low coast masks, industrial houses helping through monetary support, making ventilators, innovative and affordable solutions for corona warriors, etc.

Above all the huge public participation is something which is totally unexpected of us, in spite of the world thinking that India still is a snake charmer’s country where people don’t care for others.

We do care for our nation and are serious in fighting the issues which come against us. We are a powerhouse and know how to tackle issues which hurt us, and the world has started cheering our efforts in tackling the grave issue seriously when China is behaving like a cheat by supplying defective health supplies; Europe is still down on in knees, USA is behaving like a headless chicken, we are confidently tackling the situation and showing the world how to be patient and guiding others to follow suit.

We are certainly going to show our strength to the rest of the world, which is now starting to notice us and asking our able leadership to come forward and show the way.

We, Indians are fighting it out and assuring the world that mankind will once again emerge winner and everything will be all right. We are the hope of the world for future, Hope that on a global scale, we CAN overcome the challenge. So cheer up world – If good times have not stayed with us, Bad times will also go.
