By offering business-class tickets, luxury stays, gift card prizes, and NT$600 airport vouchers, Taiwan’s latest initiatives highlight its signature hospitality and encourage travellers to return, stay longer, and explore more.

The Taiwan Tourism Administration (TTA) has launched two new initiatives to welcome global travellers: the ‘Taiwan the Lucky Land – Thank You Season’ rewards visitors with monthly prize draws, while the ‘Enter Taiwan, Enjoy a Gift!’ campaign offers NT$600 vouchers to transit passengers. Together, these programs highlight Taiwan’s hospitality and invite travellers to return and explore more.

Taiwan the Lucky Land – Thank You Season is a follow-up campaign of TTA for travellers who previously registered for the “Taiwan the Lucky Land” lucky draw and have already visited Taiwan. Eligible participants can register on the campaign website before their next arrival in Taiwan for a chance to win prizes such as business-class round-trip airline tickets to Taiwan, luxury hotel accommodation packages, and NT$5,000 gift card vouchers. The promotion runs until 30 January 2026 (12 pm). Winners are selected through monthly draws held in the final week of each month, and non-winning entries automatically roll over. Prizes cannot be exchanged or substituted.

The initiative builds on the unprecedented success of the original Taiwan the Lucky Land campaign which engaged over 6.5 million international travellers since May 2023, the Tourism Administration has relaunched this flagship initiative as a gratitude-driven program targeting returning visitors. More information can be accessed on https://5000.taiwan.net.tw/index_en.html

Launched on November 1, 2025 by TTA, ‘Enter Taiwan, Enjoy a Gift!’ campaign offers NT$600 vouchers to non-Taiwanese transit passengers who enter Taiwan for up to 24 hours via Taoyuan International Airport. Designed to showcase Taiwan’s charm and boost airport commerce, the initiative highlights Taoyuan Airport’s rising status as a global transit hub, supported by expanding international routes such as new services from Emirates and Etihad. Running through October 31, 2026, the program invites travellers to experience Taiwan’s welcoming culture and creates new opportunities to convert transit visitors into future tourists.

The campaign is aimed at enhancing Taiwan’s international visibility and attract return visits from transit passengers. Travellers can register their basic information on the campaign website. Upon arrival at Taoyuan International Airport, they can present their passport and onward international boarding pass at the TTA’s Visitor Service Centres (located at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) to receive a NT$600 shopping voucher. The voucher is valid at participating merchants within the airport, including restaurants, duty-free stores, souvenir shops, and other retail services. To be part of the campaign one needs to register at https://halfdaytour.taiwan.net.tw/Schedule/self.

Looking ahead, TTA will continue to engage with stakeholders and partners in order to introduce more such incentives and enhance Taiwan’s destination appeal. These initiatives are aimed at encouraging visitors to stay longer and explore Taiwan, boosting tourist arrivals and spending, enhancing Taiwan’s image as a warm, convenient, and enjoyable international transit hub, and ultimately a travel destination.

BY PREM KUMAR

India is among Abu Dhabi’s most dynamic and promising source markets, consistently recording double-digit growth. Building on this momentum, the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is implementing a sharply localised and family-centric approach to deepen engagement across the Indian market. In an exclusive interview with Travel & Hospitality (TH), Abdulla Yousuf, Director of International Operations, DCT Abu Dhabi, explains how Abu Dhabi is positioning itself as a destination where culture, comfort, and celebration converge, offering Indian families a sense of familiarity wrapped in world-class hospitality.

Q. What is Abu Dhabi’s strategy for attracting the Indian family market?

India remains one of Abu Dhabi’s largest and dynamic source markets, with sustained double-digit growth in both visitor numbers and spends. In 2024, we welcomed over 360,000 Indian hotel guests, a 43 per cent increase over the previous year, and we project more than 400,000 in 2025. This growth is being driven by a few clear trends that shape our India strategy.

Firstly, ‘live tourism’ is booming. Indian travellers are coming for our world-class events calendar, from four sold-out Coldplay concerts at Zayed Sports City Stadium earlier this year to the Asia Cup 2025 hosted at Zayed Cricket Stadium, NBA Abu Dhabi Games, Formula 1, UFC, and international cultural festivals. These multi-generational experiences bring families together.

Secondly, there is a marked shift towards immersive cultural experiences and multi-generational travel. Indian families, often travelling in groups spanning grandparents, parents, and children, seek destinations that are easy to navigate, safe, and welcoming, with something for every age group. Abu Dhabi’s blend of ancient traditions and cutting-edge attractions fits this perfectly.

Our approach in India is highly localised and granular. We are deepening our presence beyond the major metros into high-growth cities such as Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar, and Pune, targeting emerging outbound segments through roadshows, joint marketing programmes, and tactical offers.
We work with over 20 Indian trade partners, including leading OTAs like EaseMyTrip, MakeMyTrip, TBO, and Thomas Cook India, to run flash sales, last-minute deals, and festival-specific packages aligned with India’s 20–35 day booking window.

Connectivity is another cornerstone: Etihad Airways continues to expand direct flights from more Indian cities to Abu Dhabi, making the journey seamless. While our global strategy focuses on Abu Dhabi’s year-round appeal, safety, and cultural depth, our India strategy is more festival-driven, more entertainment-led, and more family-focused.

Q. How is Abu Dhabi positioning itself as a destination that caters to multi-generational Indian families?

Abu Dhabi has consciously built a future-ready tourism ecosystem that adapts to diverse markets, embraces cultural nuances, and delivers lasting value across generations. For Indian families, this means creating an environment where grandparents, parents, and children can each find experiences that speak to them, all within a safe, accessible, and welcoming setting.

Indian families are increasingly using collaborative planning tools, such as WhatsApp family groups, to organise their trips. We have embraced this insight in our marketing, ensuring our Experience Abu Dhabi campaigns are designed for easy sharing within these groups, and that our content is bilingual in Hindi and English to appeal to all generations.

Safety is a critical factor for multi-generational travel, and Abu Dhabi’s consistent ranking as the world’s safest city in the Numbeo Safety Index for nine consecutive years offers strong reassurance for Indian families, particularly for solo female travellers and elderly visitors.

We understand that multi-generational families have varied needs. Our accommodation partners offer connected rooms, flexible check-in and check-out times, and family-friendly amenities. Attractions like the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Qasr Al Watan offer wheelchair access, shaded walkways, and guided tours at a relaxed pace. Theme parks such as Ferrari World and Warner Bros. World have dedicated areas for younger children, while Saadiyat Cultural District offers serene spaces for reflection and learning.

Our collaboration with brand ambassador Ranveer Singh has been instrumental in boosting awareness for Abu Dhabi among Indian audiences. In essence, Abu Dhabi positions itself for Indian multi-generational families by combining world-class attractions with cultural authenticity, ensuring accessibility and comfort for all ages, and by speaking in ways that reflect real Indian family dynamics and planning habits.

Q. What is the average duration of stay for an Indian family in Abu Dhabi, and what are the most common places they visit? Are you seeing any shifts in travel patterns?

On average, Indian overnight visitors stay around four nights in the city, with many choosing hotel or serviced apartment accommodation. Our research shows that 76 per cent of Indian overnight visitors stayed in hotels or hotel apartments, with the remainder staying with friends or family. Top attractions for Indian travellers include the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Warner Bros. World, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Qasr Al Watan. Families also enjoy the Abu Dhabi Corniche, SeaWorld Yas Island, and the Heritage Village. For younger visitors, Yas Island’s theme parks are a major draw, while cultural landmarks appeal to older generations. We are seeing a rise in first-time visitors as 73 per cent of Indian travellers in 2024 visited Abu Dhabi for the first time, along with growing interest in exploring beyond the city, with visits to the Al Ain region tripling compared to previous years.

Q. Can you share details on any special packages for Yas Island, the Louvre Abu Dhabi or Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque designed for families with children?

Yas Island offers a range of family-focused packages that combine entry to multiple theme parks, including Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi, and Yas Waterworld, often with discounted rates for children.
At Louvre Abu Dhabi, families can join interactive workshops and child-friendly tours introducing young visitors to art and culture. The museum also offers family trails and activity booklets that encourage children to explore the galleries at their own pace.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque provides guided tours accessible to all ages, with family-friendly facilities such as shaded areas, seating, and easy access for strollers and wheelchairs. Additionally, the official Abu Dhabi Pass, valid for 14 days, helps travellers save up to 50 per cent across 70+ top attractions and activities, with additional discounts on visa services, SIM cards, and transportation.

Q. Beyond the major theme parks on Yas Island, what other unique, family-friendly attractions would you recommend that might not be on a typical tourist’s radar?

For families seeking experiences beyond Yas Island, Abu Dhabi offers a wealth of unique options. The Al Ain region, known as a ‘living oasis’, is home to UNESCO World Heritage sites, lush oases, and Al Ain Zoo, which features educational programmes and wildlife encounters ideal for children.

Jubail Mangrove Park is another hidden gem, where families can stroll along boardwalks through protected mangroves and learn about the local ecosystem. Children can spot crabs, fish, and birds, while adults enjoy the tranquillity of nature. For a blend of culture and leisure, the Qasr Al Hosn Palace and the Cultural Foundation in the city centre offer interactive exhibitions, workshops, and performances for all ages.

With the opening of the BAPS Hindu Mandir, interest in spiritual and cultural travel has increased. This landmark offers a serene environment for reflection, and is a meaningful stop for experiencing leisure and culture together. Families can also have unique experience at teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. It is an immersive, multi-sensory art space that blends technology, creativity, and interactivity, engaging visitors of all ages. These attractions, alongside Abu Dhabi’s well-known icons, ensure that families can enjoy a diverse itinerary that goes beyond the expected.

Q. How does Abu Dhabi ensure that experiences like desert safaris are both authentic and safe for families, especially those with younger kids or elderly members?

Desert safaris in Abu Dhabi are operated by licensed providers who adhere to strict safety and quality standards. Vehicles are regularly inspected, and drivers are trained in both off-road skills and guest safety. For families with younger children or elderly members, operators can tailor the experience to be less physically demanding, focusing on cultural elements such as camel rides, falconry displays, and traditional Bedouin-style camps. These camps often feature shaded seating, accessible pathways, and gentle activities like henna painting and storytelling.

Q. What are the initiatives to ensure convenience for elderly visitors at major attractions?

Major attractions, including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Qasr Al Watan, are equipped with ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms. Many hotels offer ground-floor rooms, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms, and shuttle services to key attractions. Tour operators can arrange private transportation with easy-access vehicles, and guided tours are paced to suit elderly visitors. Cultural sites also provide seating areas and shaded rest stops to ensure comfort throughout visits.

Q. What kind of curated, leisurely activities like guided tours or cultural workshops are available for older visitors who prefer a relaxed pace?

For older visitors, Abu Dhabi offers a variety of leisurely activities combining cultural enrichment with comfort. Guided heritage tours of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Qasr Al Hosn, and the Heritage Village provide deep insights into Emirati history and traditions without strenuous activity.

The Big Bus Company’s open-top double-decker tours cover Abu Dhabi’s major landmarks, from the opulent Emirates Palace to culture-rich Saadiyat Island, home to Louvre Abu Dhabi and Manarat Al Saadiyat. The company also operates an Al Ain Panoramic Day Tour for Al Ain Region, covering key sites such as Al Qattara Fort, Al Hili Fort, Hili Grand Tomb, Qasr Al Muwaiji, Al Ain Palace Museum and Al Jahili Fort.

Workshops at the Cultural Foundation and Louvre Abu Dhabi invite visitors to engage with art, calligraphy, and traditional crafts in a relaxed setting. For nature lovers, a gentle boat tour through the mangroves or a sunset dhow cruise along the Corniche offers a scenic and tranquil experience.

Q. Given the importance of food in Indian culture, how does Abu Dhabi’s hospitality sector cater to diverse Indian dietary preferences?

As Indian travellers increasingly choose Abu Dhabi for both short getaways and extended family holidays, we are working closely with hospitality partners to ensure the destination reflects their expectations from both culinary and cultural perspectives, incorporating Hindi-speaking staff, Indian food options, and Diwali-themed programming.
Many hotels and restaurants offer extensive vegetarian menus, and several can prepare Jain-friendly meals upon request. Indian cuisine is widely available, from fine dining to casual eateries, with regional specialities from across India represented.

Restaurants such as Martabaan by Hemant Oberoi at Emirates Palace offer refined Indian dining experiences, while numerous vegetarian and vegan-friendly cafes cater to health-conscious travellers. At major attractions, food outlets provide vegetarian options, and hotel breakfast buffets often include Indian dishes alongside international fare. This culinary diversity ensures Indian visitors feel at home while exploring new flavours.

The 4th edition welcomes travel CEOs & industry leaders to the heart of the Middle East in Q4 2025

The fourth annual Skift Global Forum East (SGFE) event will be hosted later this year in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, owing to a new partnership between the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) and Skift, the travel industry news and thought leadership platform. Announced at ITB Berlin, the partnership further solidifies Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading global events destination.

HE Saleh Mohammed Al Geziry, Director General Tourism Sector at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Hosting the Skift Global Forum East in Abu Dhabi reflects our commitment to shaping the future of travel and tourism. The forum will foster meaningful connections among industry leaders, facilitating the exchange of valuable perspectives and the exploration of new growth opportunities within the Middle East region and beyond. The partnership between Skift and DCT Abu Dhabi underscores our belief in the power of partnerships to achieve shared objectives for the tourism sector and fuel progress for all stakeholders.”

SGFE builds on the success of Skift Global Forum, an event held annually in New York that has been instrumental in driving innovation and thought leadership within the global travel industry. The newer sister event SGFE serves as the Middle East’s hub for exploring the future of travel, bringing together industry leaders and creative thinkers to analyse innovations, understand key drivers and unlock growth opportunities across the Middle East and globally.

Last year’s event saw over 500 attendees from 32 countries converge in Dubai to discuss influential trends, from the rise of experiential travel to shifts in technology and AI.

Rafat Ali, CEO & Founder, Skift said: “We are thrilled to announce the 4th edition of Skift Global Forum East will take place in Abu Dhabi later this year, happening in Q4 2025. As the premier gathering of global CEOs & travel leaders, this event continues to shape the future of our industry through bold insights, expert speakers onstage, and invaluable networking. Abu Dhabi, with its dynamic blend of culture, innovation, and hospitality, serves as an excellent hub for this forum—bringing together visionaries from around the world to explore new frontiers in travel and hospitality. Thank you to the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi for their partnership.”

Beyond the main conference programme, SGFE will feature initiatives focused on driving transformative change within the industry, including ‘Meet Generation Next’, aimed at strengthening dialogue among established and emerging female leaders.

This focus on positive impact resonates with DCT Abu Dhabi’s vision to transform the emirate’s socio-economic landscape and support talent development. Strategic partnerships like this collaboration with Skift leverage the power of events to foster sustainable growth and elevate Abu Dhabi’s tourism sector.

Skift Global Forum East is scheduled to take place in the last quarter of 2025. Full details will be announced in due course.

How does India rank in terms of priority among your primary sources?

India has consistently ranked among the top five key markets for Sharjah, underscoring its significant contribution to the emirate’s tourism growth. In 2023, Sharjah welcomed 163,329 visitors from India, marking a notable 5% increase compared to 2022. This rise demonstrates India’s growing importance as a source market and its continuous positive impact on Sharjah’s tourism sector.

Recent years have seen a substantial uptick in luxury travel from India, with more visitors arriving from major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai. This trend reflects an increasing preference for premium experiences among Indian travellers, including high-net-worth individuals, luxury leisure seekers, and affluent families. This shift has significantly expanded and enriched Sharjah’s luxury tourism offerings.

At SCTDA, we adopt a data-driven approach, utilising comprehensive market research and in-depth analysis of Indian travellers’ habits, preferences, and needs. These insights form the foundation of our strategic initiatives and campaigns, enabling us to tailor our offerings precisely to meet the expectations of Indian tourists and enhance their overall experience. We provide personalised itineraries and experiences that resonate with their desire for immersive cultural experiences, adventure-based travel, and family-friendly activities. This includes a diverse range of options, from cuisine choices to cultural celebrations and activities that cater to their specific interests.

Sharjah’s ability to offer premium experiences makes it a destination of choice for savvy travellers, further driving tourism growth in the region. As Sharjah continues to evolve as a global tourism hotspot, its partnership with key markets like India underscores its appeal and commitment to offering unparalleled experiences.

SCTDA has led efforts to present Sharjah as a secure and distinctive family destination. Could you please explain the significance of this, as well as the different initiatives planned by the emirate to encourage further tourism growth from this sector?

Sharjah is the third largest and the most family-friendly city in the UAE. The emirate’s pioneering efforts and accomplishments in recognising and prioritising children’s rights led to its being conferred with a prestigious accolade from UNICEF, making it the first city in the Middle East to become a Child Friendly City (CFC), and the first in the world to win the title after successfully meeting the new international requirements and criteria launched by UNICEF in 2018. The emirate was also honoured twice with the prestigious UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) Inspire Award in 2019 and 2021.

The emirate offers a plethora of family and kids-friendly destinations, experiences, and activities where fun, entertainment, and education meet. Educational and cultural experiences include museums like the Sharjah Science Museum, Sharjah Art Museum, and the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization. Parks and recreational activities such as Al Montazah Parks, Al Majaz and Kalba Waterfronts, and Al Noor Island provide fun and leisure opportunities. Sharjah’s beaches and water activities, including Al Heera and Khorfakkan, are perfect for family outings. The emirate also boasts over 66 green parks and safe play areas.

For adventurous families, Sharjah Safari, the largest safari park outside of Africa, and Arabia’s Wildlife Centre, one of the largest homes for rare animals in the Arabian Peninsula, offer unique wildlife experiences. The emirate also hosts numerous events and festivals, such as the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival and the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF), which offer a great literary gateway for children.

Sharjah continues to strengthen its family-friendly policies by adopting international best practices and developing destinations that attract families seeking fun, adventure, and edutainment. These efforts not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also position Sharjah as a premier destination for family tourism, ensuring a lasting impact on the community’s well-being and growth.

Sharjah’s art landscape has transformed significantly over time. What strategies do you have in place to establish Sharjah as a leading creative hub for artists and creative minds from both the region and globally?

As the world increasingly embraces cultural experiences, the art tourism market is experiencing a remarkable surge. A recent study by Future Market Insights forecasts growth leading to an impressive $52.42 billion valuation by 2032. This upswing is both commercially and culturally profitable, enabling economies and communities to grow richer through art.

Sharjah has been at the forefront of this cultural renaissance, offering a diverse array of experiences centred around culture, art, and heritage. The emirate is home to destinations such as world-class museums, historic sites, and cultural centres, where visitors can immerse themselves in vibrant art and cultural scenes.

For example, the Emirates Fine Arts Society, established in 1980, is dedicated to supporting and stimulating the arts scene in the UAE. The society’s Annual Exhibition, the longest-running art exhibition in the country, is held at Sharjah Art Museum. Sharjah also hosts several big art-focused events that draw international attention. The Sharjah Light Festival, for example, brings together international artists who present dazzling light shows against the backdrop of Sharjah’s traditional heritage, attracting thousands of visitors annually. The Sharjah Biennial is another significant event, serving as an international platform for exhibition and experimentation for artists from the region and beyond. Since 1993, it has commissioned, produced, and presented large-scale public installations, performances, and films by artists around the world.

Venues such as Sharjah Art Foundation support the art scene in the emirate with flagship projects like the Rain Room. The Flying Saucer houses the first public art library in Sharjah. These initiatives provide artists with resources, spaces and wider peer communities they require to thrive.

Despite the thriving tourism in the region, some individuals highlight the perception of limited access to leisure, entertainment, nightlife, and clubbing in GCC countries compared to Western destinations. How do you anticipate this perception evolving, especially regarding attracting more young tourists to the region?

In the evolving landscape of global tourism, there is a significant shift towards diverse and authentic experiences beyond traditional leisure and nightlife. According to Hilton’s 2024 Trends Report, modern travellers are increasingly prioritising experiences, exploring the unknown, trying local cuisine, and learning about local customs and traditions when on holiday. This evolving traveller profile presents an opportunity for destinations like Sharjah to showcase their unique offerings.

The UAE has been ranked first in the region and 18th globally in the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024, proving it to be a truly remarkable destination. Sharjah, with its rich historical and cultural heritage, leads the way in offering authentic experiences. The emirate has numerous heritage projects meticulously restored and transformed into tourist destinations, such as the UNESCO-nominated World Heritage Site Mleiha and its archaeological center. The Heart of Sharjah district, housing the Chedi Al Bait, Sharjah and Serai Wing, Bait Khalid Bin Ibrahim, is another example of protecting heritage while upgrading destinations with modern comforts.

Sharjah’s art scene, family-friendly attractions, and diverse cultural and recreational activities cater to various traveller segments, including young tourists seeking unique and immersive experiences. As the GCC emerges as a premier tourist destination, the region’s strategic investments in infrastructure, cultural exchanges, and enhanced accessibility for global travellers are paving the way for a new era in tourism.

By blending authentic experiences with modern amenities, destinations like Sharjah are challenging conventional perspectives and captivating an increasingly discerning global audience. This evolution in tourism offerings reflects a broader trend across the GCC, where governments are investing in diversifying tourism to engage with younger demographics and meet their evolving preferences.

Delhi retains its ranking as the second largest Indian source market for South Africa

India solidifies its position as one amongst South African Tourism’s top-3 priority markets

Determined to build over the strong travel momentum witnessed in the previous year, South African Tourism wrapped up the second chapter of its 20th Annual India Roadshow at Shangri-La Delhi. Kickstarted on 12th February in Jaipur along with a panel discussion on 11th February, the trade schedule will now move forward to Ahmedabad on 14th February, Bengaluru on 15th February and conclude in Mumbai on 16th February.

India is currently one of the fastest growing outbound travel markets, outpacing Asia and may countries around the world. The country is amongst the top-3 focus markets for South African Tourism and holds immense potential in the years to come. The 20th multi-city schedule achieves a vital milestone for South African Tourism, marking more than two decades of its growing investments in India. Led by Ms. Neliswa Nkani – Hub Head – Middle East, India and Southeast Asia, South African Tourism the event welcomed more than 550 travel trade partners in Delhi and shared critical local market insights enabling them to capitalise on growing demand. In addition, the tourism board partnered with the hotel to offer authentic South African cuisine and a glimpse of its culture to the guests.

Strengthening the relationship between Rainbow Nation’s indigenous businesses and Indian buyers, the roadshow hosted 42 prominent trade exhibitors from South Africa. The congregation allowed Indian trade partners to evaluate their inventory and identify potential future collaborations. It is worth noting, amongst the local businesses were 14 SMMEs who along with their counterparts presented a portfolio comprising of 40% new products showcasing diversified and affordable offerings. Such events present businesses from both the nations a platform to engage and establish mutually beneficial partnerships.

Commenting on the occasion Neliswa Nkani, Hub Head – Middle East, India and South East Asia, South African Tourism said “The 20th Annual India Roadshow marks more than two decades of South African Tourism’s commitment to the Indian market. 2023 emerged as another successful year for us and we witnessed 43% increase in travellers from India compared to its previous year. This achievement would not have been possible without relentless efforts from our Indian trade partners and the affection showered upon the Rainbow Nation by India travellers; we are truly grateful.”

She continues “Post resumption of travel activities we have seen India’s outbound tourism market bounce back much stronger compared to rest of the world. Given the immense potential that lies in the Indian market, it continues to remain amongst our top three focus market for 2024 and holds a position of strategic importance. We hope to keep this momentum going and welcome “more & more” Indian travellers to the Rainbow Nation.”

Delhi is currently the second largest market for South African Tourism in India and contributes profoundly to leisure, business, and MICE segments. In 2023, South Africa witnessed an increase of 43% in overall inbound travellers from India. Interestingly, 36% of Delhiites travelled to the Rainbow Nation for business purposes while 72% of travellers from Delhi spent most on shopping when in-destination. The tourism board will continue with its efforts to improve accessibility and encourage dialogues aimed at establishing direct routes to boost tourism and trade between the two nations.

Promoting the destination through the eyes of Indian influencers and entice consumers to explore new provinces, South African Tourism is currently running its flagship “More & More” brand campaign across target cities. The tourism board is also set to host its renown Corporate Think Tank in the coming months to engage with Indian corporates and address their business and MICE travel needs. At present, several stop-over flights fly from India to South Africa, including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Air Seychelles.
