The international congress has confirmed Moscow’s status as a world-renowned center of excellence in the field of business tourism, having brough together professionals from 37 countries of the BRICS and the Global South. The congress had twice as many participants compared to the year before – over 2500 people. A multi-format program covered such topics as the success of MICE destinations, the efficacy of business events, the future of neurotechnology and the experience economy in the industry, all while setting a record number of business meetings.

India played a significant part at the forum, being one of the most dynamically developing business tourism markets. The MGMC 2025 had 53 hosted buyers, which emphasizes the Indian business’s growing interest in international cooperation and expanding their presence on global MICE platforms.

Participants from 37 Countries

The results of the Meet Global MICE Congress (MGMC), an international business tourism forum, were summed up in Moscow. The forum took place on December 17-18 and brought together more than two and a half thousand representatives of industry professionals, relevant agencies, associations, corporate clients, and business event organizers from various countries. This is 2 times more than the previous year and six times more compared to the very first forum.

Congress participants came to the capital from 37 countries and Russian regions – there were twice as many compared to the year before. The high profile of the participants, with 70% of them being senior executives and decision makers, allowed for partnership agreements to be formed right during the event.

Speaking at the Meet Global MICE Congress in Moscow, the Wizcraft Group founder Sabbas Joseph marked the practical value of the congress as an international platform for dialogue between business and government and the exchange of best practices in business tourism: “MICE is not only about business; MICE tourism is really about economic policy. Governments and city authorities are called upon to work with each other to create collaborations. MICE is the industry of the future that will create “one people, one world”. It begins with responsibility, not just for ourselves, but for the future of mankind.”

Among the participants were: Governing Board Member of the Indian Convention Promotion Bureau Tushar Kesharwani, the Visit Qatar MICE Acting Director Ruqaya Cassim, Chairman of the Association of African Exhibition Organizers Projeni Pather, the Kenyan Actnable AI founder and CEO Dharmendra Jain, the former CEO of EXPO 2027 in Serbia Dušan Borovčanin. There were also representatives of tourism departments of Jordan, the Maldives, Nepal, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan.

Within the exhibition area, more than 8 thousand business meetings were held, all aimed at establishing new contacts, finding clients and developing a plan of events for the future.

Two Eventful Days

15 business sessions were organized for the participants, the main subjects being: “Conferences and Exhibitions”. “Destinations and Associations”, “Global Trends and Analytics”, “Meetings and Intensives”, “Business”, and “Technology”. The plenary sessions, panel discussions, case sessions, presentations, addresses by star speakers, and trainings allowed for the full exploration of the MGMC-2025 main theme – “Unity Through Open Diversity: New Opportunities for Global Growth”.

The speakers addressed issues such as the impact of personalization, gamification, hybridization, the experience economy, artificial intelligence, and neurotechnology on the MICE industry. There was also a focus on the multiplier effect of mega-events, the profile of the modern industry client and provider, the reflection of national codes in the global exhibition industry, the formula for commercial success and promotion channels for business destinations, and in particular – on off-site corporate events for Asian regions.

Exhibition for Business

More than 130 exhibitors from countries of the BRICS and the Global South were represented at the MGMC-2025. These are MICE operators, associations, convention and exhibition bureaus, transport companies, hotels looking to enter growing markets and improve brand awareness.

Separate stands were dedicated to projects “Made in Moscow” and “Moscow Tea Party”.

Key participants of the Hosted Buyers program were guests from the Middle East (more than 27%) and India (25%). All in all, a total of 200 participants came to discuss event opportunities, hold B2B negotiations, and discover Moscow as a business, cultural, and entertainment destination.

The first Meet Global MICE Congress took place in Moscow in the fall of 2023, becoming the largest international event in the field of business tourism in Russia. Las December the forum was held under the auspices of the BRICS Edition, bringing together more than 1.3 thousand business tourism representatives from countries of the BRICS and the Global South. Moscow became a platform for business dialogue with 17 countries. The main subject was “Global Challenges and Trends of the MICE Industry: Towards Sustainable Development Through the Lens of the BRICS Countries’ Experience and Knowledge” – discussed during 13 business sessions.

The Moscow City Tourism Committee sustains the capital’s brand as a prime tourist destination not only in Russia, but internationally as well. Most frequently Moscow welcomes guests form China, India, and countries of the CIS and the Middle East. To strengthen international ties, the Russian capital organizes business missions, showcases its tourism potential at industry exhibitions, and creates projects and events aimed at attracting foreign tourists.

Steve Madden, the globally recognized leader in footwear and accessories, today announced the appointment of Bollywood actress Shanaya Kapoor as its first-ever brand ambassador in India. This strategic partnership underscores the brand’s commitment to the Indian market and aligns its bold, expressive design philosophy with a rising cultural icon.

The collaboration is founded on a shared ethos of self-expression and confident style. Kapoor’s personal aesthetic, which seamlessly blends contemporary trends with a distinctive, relatable edge, mirrors Steve Madden’s core mission: to create statement-making pieces that feel both aspirational and wearable. In her role, Kapoor will be the face of the brand’s key campaigns, starting with the upcoming Autumn Winter ‘25 and Spring Summer ‘26 collections. Her authentic style and connection with a new generation of Indian consumers perfectly embody the spirit of the brand. This partnership is a significant step in the brand’s expansion strategy across India, where she will play a pivotal role in introducing the collections to a wider audience.

Shanaya Kapoor expressed her enthusiasm about the new role, stating, “Steve Madden has always been a go-to brand for me – it’s where I find pieces that are both fashion-forward and incredibly versatile. I am honored to be their first brand ambassador in India and excited to showcase the unique energy and quality of their footwear and handbags.”

The announcement comes as Steve Madden launches its new campaign, Step Into Your Story, a bold celebration of individuality, rebellion, and unapologetic self-expression. Positioned as more than fashion, the brand’s iconic shoes and handbags become the first step into becoming — empowering confidence, authenticity, and raw identity.

With Kapoor as the ambassador, Steve Madden in partnership with Reliance Brands sets out to strengthen its retail and digital presence in India, while connecting with a new generation of fashion-conscious consumers who see style not just as an accessory, but as a powerful tool of personal expression.

Jointly organized by the International Trade Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the event marks its eighth edition this year and has attracted 107 Taiwanese companies. With a record number of leading Taiwanese companies in attendance, the event isn’t just a showcase—it’s a powerful statement of Taiwan’s commitment to India’s dynamic market.

This year’s Expo is a premier platform for top-tier collaborations. Among them are industry giants like Foxconn, Delta Electronics, Advantech, and Phison Electronics, along with prominent groups such as Nan Liu and Breeze Group. Their presence underscores a shared vision of long-term partnership and mutual growth, reinforcing India’s role as a promising hub for future business.

A Convergence of Strengths: Technology Meets Innovation

TAITRA Chairman James Huang highlighted the immense synergy between the two economies. He emphasized that India’s thriving startup ecosystem and vast pool of software talent are perfect complements to Taiwan’s global leadership in semiconductors, ICT, and smart technologies. This partnership, he noted, holds the key to unlimited opportunities.

Aligning with India’s National Priorities

With Taiwan’s AI prowess, the “Digital India” and “Smart Cities” initiatives will lead Taiwan and India to set new milestones in the global technology manufacturing industry.

Cynthia Kiang, Director General of TITA pointed out that India is currently the world’s second-largest manufacturer of footwear and textiles. With the global brands’ “China+1″ strategy taking effect, India has become a production base for supply chain relocation. This year, TITA introduced an innovative approach of “Cross-Industry Alliances,” integrating petrochemical, machinery, and textile industries for joint marketing promotion. At this Expo, TAITRA and the Taiwan Textile Federation established the “Smart Manufacturing Pavilion” and the ” Sustainable & Innovation Textile Pavilion,” showcasing Taiwan’s intelligent and efficient solutions in petrochemical, shoemaking, and textile processes to demonstrate Taiwan’s industrial energy and capture vast business opportunities in India.

Bau Shuan Ger, Representative of TECC in India, expressed his belief that the longstanding partnership between Taiwan and India will continue to strengthen, further impacting the dynamic global market. Mr. Lalduhawma, Chief Minister of Mizoram State, who attended the opening ceremony, highlighted Taiwan’s role as a significant global industrial hub and emphasized the limitless potential for future bilateral cooperation.

To help more excellent New Taipei City enterprises expand into the Indian market, Chu, Tih-Ju, Deputy Mayor, of New Taipei City Government, and Amy Ho, Commissioner of New Taipei City Government, Economic Development Department led 20 well-known businesses to establish the “New Taipei City Pavilion,” focusing on smart cities, electronics and machinery manufacturing, smart healthcare, and e-sports, targeting India’s industrial needs and green transformation opportunities.

On the first afternoon of the expo, TAITRA held the “Taiwan-Japan Business Cooperation Seminar and Matchmaking in India,” inviting representatives from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) New Delhi office, major Japanese trading companies Sumitomo and Marubeni, Japanese companies Panasonic, Delta Electronics, and Ahamani to share their experiences in the Indian market. The business meeting that followed focused on electronics, smart mobility, and smart manufacturing industries, seeking further trilateral cooperation opportunities between Taiwan, Japan, and India. Robert Hsieh, Deputy Representative from the TECC in India, and Kyoko Hokugo, minister (Economic and Development), Embassy of Japan were also present to deliver speeches.

Taiwan Expo 2024 in India, held from July 8 to 10, offers Taiwanese companies a prime opportunity to showcase their top products in New Delhi. This year’s Expo features 12 pavilions across key sectors such as Electronics Manufacturing, Medical and Biotechnology, Smart Lifestyle, Smart Manufacturing, and more, providing an interactive experience with diverse products. The event is 1.6 times larger than last year’s in Mumbai, with enterprise participation nearly back to pre-pandemic levels. Highlight pavilions, organized by Taiwan’s central ministries, local governments, and industry associations, underscore the importance of the Indian market. Notable examples include the Taiwan Visitors Association promoting tourism and the Taipei Computer Association’s Innovation Pavilion showcasing high-tech smart solutions and AIoT products.

First Group Focuses on Yilan, Followed by Taichung and Kaohsiung Inspections in the Second Half of the Year

To actively cultivate the international tourist market, the Ministry of Transportation and Communication’s Tourism Administration, Taiwan, in addition to focusing on the main markets of Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, is now also targeting the significant consumer markets of Indonesia and India as important new expansion points. Following the establishment of the “Taiwan Tourism Information Center in Mumbai”, India’s largest economic city, on February 7, 2024, the Administration invited ten travel agencies specializing in incentive travel to Taiwan from June 20 to 25. This marks the first post-pandemic group, aiming to “prioritize the short-term development of the MICE market and target the mass market in the long term” through a phased marketing strategy.

To seize the opportunity for Indian businesses to visit Taiwan, the Administration also organized a “Taiwan-India Tourism B2B Networking Session” on the 24th, attracting about 15 businesses from travel agencies, hotels, and the tourism and leisure industry. The atmosphere at the event was very lively, facilitating face-to-face interactions and business connections between Taiwanese and Indian tourism professionals.

The Administration highlighted that India is the world’s most populous country, with approximately 40,000 Indian tourists visiting Taiwan annually before the pandemic. With its rapidly growing economic strength and diverse culture, the “new wealthy class” and “business traveller segment” are highly promising and valuable markets. This year’s visitor numbers are expected to return to pre-pandemic levels.

Through this inspection and exchange meeting, Indian businesses gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan, laying the foundation for strengthened cooperation between Taiwanese and Indian tourism industries. It is also hoped that direct flights between the two regions will resume soon, making travel between Taiwan and India more convenient, comfortable, and economical.

The itinerary for this first group focused on Yilan, allowing Indian businesses to experience Taiwan’s rich, local, and diverse tourism resources and reception quality. Highlights included visits to Toucheng Farm for rural life and eco-tourism, the National Centre for Traditional Arts to appreciate Taiwan’s nostalgic cultural heritage, historical sites, and traditional architecture, and enjoying the beautiful mountain and sea scenery of the Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area. During their stay in Taipei, the group also visited the secret passage of the Grand Hotel and experienced retro costume changes in Dadaocheng.

The Indian businesses were impressed and gave positive feedback, indicating plans to develop travel products, enhance promotion, and send more tourists after returning to India. The Administration will maintain contact and seek further cooperation opportunities. In the second half of the year, more invitations will be extended to Indian businesses for inspections in central and southern Taiwan, such as exploring the beauty of Taichung’s mountains, seas, and cultural areas, experiencing the tourism charm of Kaohsiung, and assessing the natural and cultural resources of Hualien and Taitung. The Administration continues to welcome enthusiastic Indian friends to experience Taiwan’s unique charm and continuous surprises.

In recent years, bilateral collaboration between Taiwan and India has not only boosted economic growth but also helped both countries to be attractive destinations for investment and development. The Taiwan Expo is one of the key initiatives that play an important role in creating a platform that facilitates bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

Due to India becoming a regional manufacturing hub, the effectiveness of supply chain relocation to this area is significant. From January to May 2024, the highest export from Taiwan to India was in chips, amounting to $1.18 billion, a growth rate of 49.4%, accounting for more than 36% of Taiwan’s total exports to India ($3.23 billion). During the same period, Taiwan’s global export growth rate increased by 9.1% compared to the previous year, while exports to India surged against the trend (+28.1%) with double-digit growth.

From left to Right – Rajoo Goel, Secretary General, Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA), Rakesh Chandra Sharma, I.A.S., General Manager (BDD), India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), Keven Cheng, Deputy Executive Director, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), CHEN Yu-Chi, Executive Director, Economic Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India, S K Pathak, Secretary General, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI)

This year, the much-awaited 7th edition of the Taiwan Expo 2024, organized by the International Trade Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs (TITA) and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), is scheduled to take place from July 8 – 10, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam (Pragati Maidan) (Hall No. 2). After a five-year hiatus, this highly anticipated event marks its grand return, drawing significant attention from both Taiwanese and Indian stakeholders.

The pre-expo press conference attracted nearly 50 media outlets and included distinguished guests such as Mr. Gaurav Vats, Director East Asia, North America, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Mr. Rajoo Goel, Secretary-General, Electronic Industries Association of India (ELCINA), and Mr. Rakesh Chandra Sharma, I.A.S. General Manager (BDD), India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). Ms. CHEN Yu-Chi, Executive Director, Economic Division, TECC, also participated, making the event a bustling hub of international interaction.

India, the world’s fifth-largest economy and most populous country boasts a vast consumer market and abundant workforce. Initiatives like ‘Make in India’ ‘Digital India’ ‘Green India’ and ‘Smart City’ have stimulated many growth opportunities in the domestic market. Along with supply chain shifts, have positioned India as a regional manufacturing hub. Reflecting these trends, the Taiwan Expo 2024 will focus on five key themes: Smart Lifestyle, Smart City, Smart Manufacturing, Green Innovations, and Wellness Fiesta, showcase Taiwan’s latest technologies and solutions, offering exhibitors and visitors a closer look and deeper experiential interaction with the diverse product portfolio.

Mr. Keven Cheng, Deputy Executive Director, TAITRA highlighted that “From January to May 2024, the total trade volume between Taiwan and India grew by 25.8% compared to the same period last year, making India our 14th largest trade partner. This significant growth underscores the immense potential for Taiwan-India economic cooperation, particularly in electronics manufacturing, smart cities, and ICT sectors. The Taiwan Expo aims to further consolidate and grow business opportunities by showcasing the latest products and solutions curated based on the most recent government policies, local market demands, and consumption trends. We hope to continue to build the best stage that promotes bilateral trade relations between both countries”.

The press conference featured a sneak preview of products from selected exhibitors, offering an exclusive pre-exhibition display. Highlighted products included Gigabyte Technology’s latest AI gaming laptops, MSI’s cutting-edge AI gaming laptops, and AVer Information’s flagship camera VB350. Also showcased were Ares Monitor Arm by Modernsolid Industrial, professional medical-grade support products by Grace Care International, protein hair creams by SHAAN HONQ, and a variety of health-conscious foods and beverages by TSAN YU YEN Food and Shian Yuan International. These showcases highlighted Taiwan’s excellence across AI, healthcare, beauty, and food industries.

Taiwan Expo in India 2024 will feature over 120 companies showcasing more than 1000 products from Taiwan. Notably, the two major associations in Taiwan, the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and the Taiwan Textile Federation (TTF), and New Taipei City Government, the most populous city in Taiwan and home to the highest number of registered companies, is set to participate in the Taiwan Expo. Indian attendees will have an excellent opportunity to explore and connect with Taiwan’s diverse range of offerings at the expo.

In conversation with Mr. Keven Cheng, Deputy Executive Director Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) as he talks about the 3 decades bi-lateral ties between India and Taiwan and role of Taiwan Expo in helping boost business opportunities:

Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) has been present in India for more than 30 years, and it has been organizing Taiwan Expo in India since 2018 in India-how has the journey been so far?

Economic cooperation between Taiwan and India led to the establishment of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) in India, under the name of Taipei World Trade Center, with its four branch offices in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and New Delhi, since 1992. In India in April 2018, we established our fourth office in India, in New Delhi, followed by a Taiwan Expo in May and a Bilateral Investment Agreement that December. For more than 30 years, our presence in India has been the pioneering step towards building long-standing bilateral ties between India and Taiwan. Over the years, we have scaled up business growth opportunities fuelled by conducive trade policies and agreements to ensure a healthy growth prospect. Bilateral trade between India and Taiwan increased from $2 bn in FY06 to $7 bn in FY19. We are confident that TAITRA will continue to play a key role in strengthening the ties between both countries and help India advancing towards a USD 5 trillion economy.

Can you tell us about Taiwan Plus, an official platform set up by Invest India and Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC)?

Taiwan Plus is an official platform set up in partnership with Invest India and Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC), under the aegis of Government of India and Taiwan. This is a strategic initiative to facilitate Taiwanese companies in India and will act as a one-stop-shop to promote, facilitate and retain Taiwanese investments in India.

Key Functions broadly include entire spectrum of investment promotion – research, outreach, promotion, facilitation, and aftercare. Initiating, attracting, facilitating, fast-tracking and handholding Taiwanese investments across sectors. Providing information on investment opportunities across sectors, in specific projects. Extending holistic support to small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs from Taiwan with an interest in investing in India.

Why do you think there is a natural synergy between Taiwan and India which goes beyond business?

In recent years, the ties between India and Taiwan have gained unprecedented momentum, owing primarily to increased support for Taiwan among Indian civil society organisations. As investments and business grow, the countries also have similarities and numerous untapped opportunities for cooperation in tourism and education. There are close to 3,000 Indian students pursuing higher education in Taiwan, and numerous domestic tourists visiting both countries as a preferred holiday destination. With shared democratic values and cultural proximity aided by conducive policies, ties between India and Taiwan are set to grow stronger in the years to come.

What can we expect at the Taiwan Expo this year?

This year the much-awaited 7th edition of the Taiwan Expo’24 is scheduled from July 8 – 10, 2024 at the Pragati Maidan (Hall no.2). This year the Expo will have 12 pavilions on display across key categories like Electronics manufacturing, Medical and Biotechnology, Smart lifestyle, Smart Manufacturing, Smart Mobility, Taiwan Product Centre, Tourism, Sustainable and Innovation Textile, offering exhibitors and visitors, a closer look and deeper experiential interaction with the product portfolio. Some of the products that are being showcased at the Expo include, AI Gaming Laptop, EV charger solution, aesthetic medicine solution, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and eHealth, Industrial SSD solution, Gaming chair/ Ergonomic Standing Desk, Health Care and Medical Products, Digital Key Box, Aluminum Roller Door, Automatic Heating/Cooling Compression Molding Machine, Computer Memory & Storage, to name a few. The Taiwan Expo aims to further consolidate and grow the business opportunities by showcasing the latest products and solutions curated based on the most recent government policies, local market demands and consumption trends.

How often have you visited India? Please tell us what you like about India?

I see India as my second home and love to come here as often as possible. The people culture food and indigenous energetic vibe of the country really fascinates me. The people here are enterprising and adoption of technology to drive innovation really entices me.

Today startup ecosystem is booming; so, what is your advice to younger generation getting into business?

The startup ecosystem is indeed booming, presenting immense opportunities for the younger generation to innovate and create impactful businesses, but it is important to spend time to find what you are passionate about and validate your idea. Once you have an idea, deep dive into research and focus on learning and upskilling while building a strong team. Investments will come by but the key is to be financially prudent. Focus on Customer Experience, Quality and Service and use technology to streamline operations, enhance productivity, and improve customer engagement. Finally, do not underestimate the power of networking and having a healthy Work-Life Balance.

The Moscow City Tourism Committee is excited to announce the launch of a new training program aimed at boosting business travel from India. This initiative is a part of Moscow MICE Ambassadors online certification project to strengthen ties between Moscow and India and to promote the Russian capital as a premier host city for MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events. Scheduled to unfold from June 3 to November 1, 2024, this online project promises to be a transformative experience for all participants. Representatives from India’s MICE industry can register for the program via the RUSSPASS portal.

The Moscow MICE Ambassadors pilot course, initiated last year in partnership with the Indian MICE Agents Association (NIMA), saw 50 members receiving the inaugural certificates. Building on this success, the program is poised to bestow certification upon 200 professionals from India’s MICE industry this year.

Commenting on the results, Mr. Evgeny Kozlov, Chairman of The Moscow City Tourism said: “The Moscow MICE Ambassadors program is focused on India as it is our priority region. Our objective extends beyond simply boosting the influx of business travelers from India to Moscow; we aim to elevate the standard of services we provide and effectively exhibit our capabilities. To achieve this, we acquaint Indian MICE experts with the nuances of organizing corporate events in Moscow and offer support in customizing business agendas to suit the Indian market”.

“Our training modules are designed with a long-term perspective in mind. I am confident that all MICE specialists who will receive certificates this year and, in the years, to come, will be able to create business programs in Moscow that meet the needs of even the most demanding of clients,” added Mr. Kozlov.

This year, the program has been refined to include practical information on planning and organizing events in Moscow, offering tips tailored to Indian corporate clients. Participants will learn about key business districts, conference facilities, accommodation options, transportation services, and networking opportunities in Moscow. They will also gain firsthand insights into The Moscow City Tourism Committee’s exciting plans and receive insider tips to help promote Moscow and assist in the bidding process for MICE events.

The certification program for Moscow MICE Ambassadors consists of five in-depth modules designed to introduce participants systematically to the city’s MICE potential, highlighting its unique cultural beauty, centuries-old history, and rich architectural heritage. Each module comprises a video lecture and downloadable resources for self-study, providing valuable tools for participants’ future undertakings.
With the objective of knowledge-sharing and networking as its central premise, the event was executed as a two-part experience. While the first half of the day was focused at enriching knowledge-based sessions organized at Hotel Le Meridien Gurgaon, the latter unfolded as a glittering black-tie event at a premium experiential venue in New Delhi where some of the biggest stalwarts of the hospitality, travel and tourism fraternity contributed to an unmatched crackling energy. The crowd was entranced by an exquisite five-piece jazz troupe which was followed by a mesmerizing performance by a Coke Studio India artist.
Mr. Amit Kishore, Group Founder stated, “We have weathered a debilitating storm and yet emerged stronger.
