Blue Heaven

The most phenomenal sun, sand, beach, spas and food- Maldives is a tropical paradise nestled in the Indian Ocean that travellers must add to their bucket list.

It’s not often you get to see a water so blue and translucent that you can see right through it, but with just a peep into the Maldivian waters you can quite easily spot the most amazing coral reefs and colorful quantities of sea life. As a consequence, it is safe to conclude that visiting the Maldives is a must for any nature lover. This tropical paradise consists of the most breathtaking small islands on earth. Each luxury hotel runs and operates its own island. So, each island is safe, stylish and plush. Its popularity as a holiday destination has ensured that the standard of service, rooms and cuisine in most resorts is world-class. In fact, the Maldives is now coveted as one of the sophisticated destinations worldwide and there is almost always some royalty, movie star, sports star or billionaire enjoying a vacation there.

Very honestly, while I was in the Maldives I felt like I had stepped inside a holiday brochure. And as someone who has edited (READ: untold amounts of photoshop and other major editing tools) a lot of holiday brochures and travel advertisements, this is the highest compliment. The exotic Maldives is a place where God has secured the best of everything and though each resort is furnished with top of the line facilities; my favorite is the W Maldives. For young travellers like me, scenery and natural beauty are very important no doubt, but they are not everything. When you are stranded on an island for days, you can get bored of admiring even the most exotic settings. You crave experiences. Correspondingly, what I love about the W property is that it promotes its experiences rather than just X square foot property with Y view and this is the differentiating factor that makes the W my personal hotel pick.

How to Get There

Your journey begins at the arrival terminal of the Ibrahim Nassir International Airport, from where you are escorted by a W Welcome Ambassador to the W Lounge. While your check-in is done, you can relax and listen to W soundtracks curated by the world-famous DJs, or savor a coffee and snacks prior to your 25-minute scenic flight by seaplane to your tropical playground-The W Maldives.

Who For

The young trendy crowd, romantic couples and other frazzled holidaymakers in need of a break. If the thought of living like a young movie star sounds appealing then this hotel delivers. This swanky resort is no meditation retreat; there is pumping music throughout the property that ensures the ambience is always lively. Moreover, it offers cutting-edge facilities that meet the expectations of the 21st century jet set.

Accommodation

There are five categories of villas that cascade over the island. All the villas are spacious and have views over the beach, the lagoon or the ocean. All have air-conditioning, and various mod cons. Each one has its own private swimming pool. My favorite moment was relaxing on the comfortable curtained sunbed on my sundeck, with a drink, a book and a panoramic ocean view-soaking up the stunning sunset.

Facilities

An infinity swimming pool stretches out from the lobby and is surrounded with lounge chairs and a view of the Indian Ocean. There is complimentary snorkeling gear for hotel guests to enjoy the worldclass house reef. The hotel arranges plenty of activities like kite surfing, water skiing, windsurfing, canoes, big game fishing, hand-line fishing, snorkeling, catamaran sailing or wake & knee boarding. If these experiences don’t captivate you, the tranquil yet invigorating – AWAY spa is sure to hit the spot. In addition, there is even volleyball, billiards, card games, and a world-class gym to keep guests entertained.

Food and Drink

There are no restaurants outside the property but you won’t get bored with the food here, thanks to the three excellent themed restaurants. There is an all day dining a-la-carte restaurant by the name of Kitchen. The breakfast buffet is also served here and each dish on the lunch and dinner menu is delectable. Fish, the seafood restaurant is highly recommended and the meat is caught and served fresh. The ambience is lovely; you can enjoy sweeping views of the ocean and the never-ending sky of twinkling stars from your table. There is also the delicious and charming barbeque and grill restaurant on the beach by the name of Fire. Here you can marinate your meat with a wide choice of sauces from different cuisines. You can also try several different types breads and salads to accompany your mains while you enjoy the sound of waves that lap the beach just steps away. After dinner you can walk to SIP, the hotel’s sunset bar that juts out onto the ocean. The bartender is friendly and fun and most importantly he concocts some of the most imaginative and delicious mocktails and cocktails. Verdict

It is a fabulous property with incredible views and various experiences to be enjoyed. All aspects of the property are designed to enrich the Maldives experience. The property is one of Maldives best and is most suited for honeymooners and the young and chic at heart.
