At an event held recently at the Hotel Kohinoor Continental, the two institutes signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that entails KIMI’s students getting an advanced entry onto a related undergraduate degree programme at UCB, after having successfully completed two years of study at KIMI. The management course comprises of eight semesters of which four semesters will be covered in India and the rest will be covered in the UK. At the end of the course, the KIMI students will receive a British degree and will also have the benefit of interning in an international environment.
“Kohinoor Group was founded by Dr Manohar Joshi back in 1961 and is today a well-diversified conglomerate in India. KIMI, a part of the group which was founded as a premier hospitality school in the year 2000, is today one of the top Hotel Management Institutes in the country. Our mission at KIMI is to offer world-class education and training by constantly innovating and improving its curricular and infrastructure. Over one thousand students have successfully completed their education here and have made a career for themselves in the country and abroad. Today we are pleased to sign a MoU with one of the top class hospitality institutes of the world and are happy to know that our students will have an opportunity to get an advanced entry in UCB. I thank all the stakeholders and hope for a long-term relationship with UCB and wish our students bright careers ahead of them,” says Mr Mukund Kamat, VP, Hospitality Division, KIMI.
Based in the heart of the UK’s biggest regional city, UCB is a renowned Hospitality and Culinary Management School providing career-focused education and training. It specializes in vocational courses in both the Further and Higher Education sectors with a growing portfolio in Apprenticeships. Most of its undergraduate and postgraduate degrees are accredited by the University of Birmingham which is one of the world’s top ranked academic institutions.
“UCB as a hospitality school in the UK is known as a hospitality and tourism specialist institute that focuses on imparting skills based knowledge to its students and not just awarding a degree. Today we are a melting pot of over seven thousand students from across the world and are pleased to welcome students from one of India’s finest hospitality management schools into our family. Aims, values, aspirations are virtues that bring two entities together but it’s the differences that build synergies which over a long term work as a win-win situation for everyone involved,” says Professor Melvyn Pryer, Director of the International Student Centre, UCB.
“India has been witnessing a surge in the Foreign Tourist Arrivals in the last few years and this is an indication of the kind of growth and prospect it offers for people in the hospitality and tourism domain. We are pleased to have entered into this agreement with the KIMI and we wish all the students glittering careers and a bright future,” adds Prof Pryer.
“We congratulate KIMI on becoming a part of our 130 year old foundation,” says UCB India representative Jasminder Khanna. “This association will provide new opportunities to students desiring a career in the global hospitality industry,” he concludes.
