Lakshadweep To Transform Into Beach Destination For Mice Tourists

The department of tourism, Lakshadweep is opening a new window of opportunity for adventure buffs, surfing enthusiasts and MICE tourists.

It is a well-known fact that faraway Lakshadweep has emerged as a popular leisure and water sports destination for adventure buffs. The department of tourism has finally set the agenda for tourism development in the island and is bent upon attracting a large chunk of tourists during the coming autumn season. In an attempt to make Lakshadweep a comprehensive adventure and water sports destination, the department of tourism is making a sincere endeavour to spruce up water tourism facilities in the island. A M Hussain, Assistant Director, Department of Tourism Development, Union Territory of Lakshadweep informed, “Water sports like scuba diving is one the major attractions in the island and the tourism department is acquiring water sports equipments in order to augment the water sports amenities. We are procuring dive boats and para sailing boats replete with equipments.” Over time, the department of tourism is trying to boost the destination during rains. Hussain said, “Lakshadweep is considered to be a fair season destination owing to nature of operations and plans are ripe to develop it into a surfing destination during monsoon. Minicoy Island is popular among surf enthusiasts and we are receiving a number of enquiries related to surfing.” Hussain pointed out that apart from water sports adventure and beach tourism, Lakshadweep is catching up with eco-tourism activities. Sports’ fishing is catching up in the islands and the ethnic culture is showcased at Minicoy and other islands to tourists. Hussain added, “The department of tourism is creating tourist infrastructure in all the islands and accommodation options are beefed up with financial support from the Union Ministry of Tourism.

We have planned to kick-stat two new ships in the upcoming days. Our department is contemplating to roll out sea plane project in the islands and we are exploring the possibility of launching dedicated tourist ships in the island to ease the connectivity to the destination from the mainland.”

Initiatives of department of tourism, Lakshadweep:
• Creation of accommodation facilities in all islands.
