MIAL’s Terminal 2 bags multiple awards at the Honeywell Smart Building Awards 2017
Terminal 2 was bestowed with 3 awards namely: Greenest building, most productive building and smartest largest airport building award
GVK Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (MIAL), the company that administers Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) was recently awarded for its magnificent green building – the Terminal 2, an edifice that today stands as the pride of nation, at the prestigious Honeywell Smart Building Awards 2017.
MIAL was presented with three esteemed awards namely – Greenest Building in India award, Most Productive Building in India award and Smartest Largest Airport Building Award in recognition of its green, safe and productive structure – the Terminal 2.
Energy efficiency and sustainability have always been at the core of all operations at Mumbai Airport. The construction of Terminal 2, designed with a capacity of 40 million passengers per annum, was planned in accordance with green building guidelines. In addition to this, the airport design was also envisioned keeping in mind the environmental impact of such a vast structure.
The airport makes a conscious effort in optimally utilising available resources through maximizing use of natural light, recycling of water & organic waste, generating solar power and using technologies like Building Management System, SCADA System, Lighting Control System, Fire Alarm System etc. In addition to this, the facility functions as a silent airport despite the quantum of operations.
These distinct green features have been recognised globally through multiple accolades. The airport has received carbon neutrality certification by the Airports Council International; the platinum rating by the Indian Green Building Certification (IGBC) and recently, the Emerson Cup 2017 at the prestigious Green Building Congress, to name a few.
