Switzerland’s Matterhorn Illuminates With Messages of Hope During Coronavirus Lockdown
Zermatt, the mountain village is home to Matterhorn, one of the most photogenic mountain peaks in the world. Amidst a global pandemic scare, Switzerland is illuminating the peak every night to send messages of hope and positivity to the world.
Light has long been considered a symbol of hope and celebration! The southern municipality of Zermatt in Switzerland is taking this symbolism a step further. With messages like #hope, #solidarity, #stayhome, #allofus, #thankyou and images of a candle or a red heart this initiative shows support for people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. It also aims at recognizing the efforts of the people at the frontlines of the pandemic.
Created by the light artist, Gerry Hofstetter, these splashes are visible on the Alpine peak every night from sunset to 11 PM. These broadcasts are truly magnificent given the scale of the mountain and have captured netizens attention worldwide. Here are some pictures from the light-show as shared on Zermatt’s Instagram page.
