A wellness expert leveraging her own experiences to assist others

Pratishtha Rawat is a passionate health coach and wellness expert who strongly believes in far-reaching benefits of sustainable eating and living. She truly believes that food is medicine and that you are what you eat. Here is an interview with Pratishtha Rawat:

Q. Tell us a little about yourself, your professional journey, like how you get started into the health coaching profession, and what this journey has been like for you.

Transcending the domains of health coaching and nutrition, I envision myself as a lifestyle mentor. My credo guides me to help my communities identify the several, far-reaching benefits of sustainable eating and living. It all started when I decided to self-heal my hypothyroid. Overcoming this challenge, I developed a passion to leverage my experiences to assist others. Today, I can confidently state that this journey defines me.

Q. In your opinion, what is the most profound challenge?

I believe that all of us should strive to silence our inner critic, and that’s definitely been a challenge that I constantly grapple with as well.

Q. How can the domain of health and wellness be improved?

I feel that there is an urgent need to combat the problem of misinformation in the sphere of health and wellness; people simply don’t have sufficient access to accurate information! Being a health coach, I endeavour to fill this gap in awareness and help create informed communities.

Q. How did you get education/training for this?

In my line of work, it’s all about experiential learning! Currently, I am pursuing a health coach certification at IIN, New York.

Q. What does being a health coach mean to you?

A health coach is much more than just a nutrition expert. I perceive myself as someone who intends to spread information about sustainable transformation. Empowering the people around me to achieve their wellness goals defines my work. Mind, body and soul—a well-rounded approach towards nourishment.

Q. What do you enjoy the most in your profession?

What I relish the most is the growth mindset that I have developed over the years working as a wellness expert. I learn every day and from everyone, I interact with; others’ experiences help me broaden my horizons and delve deeper into the realm of wellness.

Q. How do you promote good health in society? What kind of health coaching do you impart?

Well, I translate scientific facts into feasible practices that help my clients master challenges in their on-going wellness journeys. I am always there for them as a guide and more importantly, as their empathetic friend.

Q. How do you see the role of a health coach in the post-COVID world?

Now more than ever, coaches need to hone their active listening skills! Clients need to be heard, and we need to be empathetic listeners.

Q. Any health tips would you like to share with our readers?

There is no ‘silver bullet’! One needs to understand that consistency is key to wellness. I truly believe that food is medicine, and you are what you eat; hence, it isn’t surprising that the world is beginning to understand the significance of clean whole foods! Moreover, it is key that one doesn’t perceive healthy living as inflicting pain on oneself; it shouldn’t be deemed as punishing oneself! Food must be relished and celebrated, it’s this attitude that I wish to instil in people.

Q. What advice would you give to someone who aims to become a health coach?

Only enter this trade if you are passionate about helping and empowering others. As a health coach, one needs to be a source of inspiration for their clients.

Q. What’s your favourite travel destination?

The awe-inspiring Grand Canyon has my heart! The Amangiri retreat made the experience even more special. Definitely check it out!

Q. What is your favourite indulgence/grub/nibbles?

The scrumptious Saag and Bajra Khichdi with a ton of desi ghee are my favourites!

Q. What do you like to do in your free time?

Nurturing my deep love for music, I like to explore the world of EDM in my downtime!

Q. What’s your all-time favourite books, and why?

‘Own the day, own your life’ by Aubrey Marcus is my absolute favourite. I like it because the author has simplified nuanced wellness concepts into knowledge that everyone can comprehend. ‘Tools of Titans’ by Tim Ferriss is my go-to source for limitless motivation!
