Air India launches ‘Maharaja Direct’
Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday launched ‘Maharaja Direct’, a whole new experience for Air India’s business and first-class passengers on long-haul international flights with revamped products and services. The latest makeover exercise involves ‘Maharaja’ business class seats with an upgraded ambience and upholstery besides variety cuisines and new uniforms for the crew.
Addressing the gathering at the launch event here, Prabhu called the facilities under the new plan “stunning” and said the airliner will ‘do wonders’ in years to come. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha, Civil Aviation Secretary R.N. Choubey, Air India CMD Pradeep Singh Kharola were among those at the event.
Sinha said air travel was going to get better and more comfortable with ‘Maharaja Direct’. At present, Air India has 17 per cent market share on international routes and has over 2,500 international prime-time slots per week spread across 44 overseas destinations.
The government’s plans to privatise the national carrier flopped last month after no bidder came forward to take over the reins of the debt-ridden airline.
