Best way to explore Delhi in 12 hours

Being the national capital of India, Delhi beholds huge significance for tourists. You can explore variety of tourist spots ancient as well as modern in the city. In this article, we have listed how you can explore Delhi in 12 hours!

At 10 a.m.

Start your day by skipping boring hotel breakfast and head to the remarkable Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India, early in the morning. Then, walk up to the Chandni Chowk and take your time to explore small shops alongside the road. Enter the spice, jewellery or wedding markets in the nearby alleyways; see the beautiful, yet run-down havelis; or visit some of the religious places of worship belonging to Hindus, Sikhs or Christians. The street-food vendors alongside the way offer a large variety of authentic, delicious and diverse Indian breakfast options, including tasty stuffed parathas at Jai Hind Paratha Bhawan, and samosas at Old and Famous Jalebiwala and much more. After a quick breakfast, head to Jama Masjid but remember to dress conservatively, covering your knees, shoulders and head.

At 12:30 a.m.

From the Jama Masjid, head for the Red Fort. This massive red sandstone residence for Mughal emperors is an iconic symbol of India and a must see heritage property in Delhi. Despite vast destruction by the British forces in the aftermath of the Indian rebellion in 1857, the size of Red Fort and its beautiful inner courts and pavilions are still impressive.

At 1:30 p.m.

After a busy morning at old Delhi, walk back to Chandni Chowk to take a break and have a relaxed lunch at Haldiram’s, a well known and decent priced South Indian fast-food restaurant. If you feel more adventurous, you can try head towards Karim’s, an easy going, simple restaurant, well known for serving delicious kebabs and meat curries.

At 2:30 p.m.

After a lovely meal, get in a rickshaw to the visit the famous India Gate, a memorial arch to commemorate the Indian soldiers who lost their lives in World War I. There you can use your photography skills and must bow down at the ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’.

At 4:00 p.m.

After visiting the India Gate, catch a rickshaw and head to Humayun’s Tomb nearby. The first garden-tomb complex in India and a direct inspiration (replica with red sandstone) of the magnificent Taj Mahal in Agra, Humayun’s Tomb is a beautiful place to experience glorious heritage of Delhi. Here you can relax or stroll alongside the walkaways.

At 4:30 p.m.

Take a long rickshaw drive or catch a taxi to Qutub Minar, considered as the symbol of the first city of Delhi, founded in the 11th century by the first Muslim rulers of Delhi immediately after the fall of the last Hindu kingdom. Walk around the Qutub complex and explore ancient ruins of mosques and tombs, as well as a mysterious iron pillar (Ashoka Stambh), which is noteworthy for its resistance to corrosion.

At 5:30 p.m. onwards

It is to be noted that most of the tourist spots closes by 5:30 p.m. So, after this time you can be yourself or plan the next place. Or else, leave for an evening meal at the close by Olive Bar and Kitchen, famous for its wood-fired pizzas. There are other places to have dinner or club joints too, which you can check on apps like google app or zomato.com.
