Kenya Tourism Board participates at India’s leading Outbound Travel Mart 2017

Magical Kenya exhibited at OTM Mumbai, India’s largest travel trade exhibition, to position Kenya as the preferred holiday destination and to provide a business networking platform for the Kenyan travel trade to engage with key tourism stakeholders in the Indian market.  The exhibition was held at the Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre from 21st to 23rd February, 2017. The Kenya delegation was led by senior officials from the Kenya Tourism Board in partnership with topnotch hotels and tour operators.

Exemplifying a steady past performance in the last five years, the Indian market has grown to be the third largest tourism source market for Kenya representing a market share of 7.3% of total tourist arrivals into Kenya.  In 2016, Kenya received a total of 64,116 tourist arrivals from the Indian representing a growth of 28.9% compared to 49,756 arrivals in 2015.   2016 marks the best performing year for tourist arrivals from India into Kenya.

To maintain this momentum, the board has increased its investment in the Indian market by focusing on impactful consumer campaigns (offline and online) and trade incentive campaigns to incentivize the travel agents to push Kenya sales. KTB recently launched the “Kenya Kalling” campaign that promotes numerous travel aspirations in Kenya targeting the new-age Indian traveler, families, adventure seekers, golfers, honeymooners, film makers and MICE or “b-leisure” travelers.  The campaign highlights the incredible diversity of landscapes, rich culture and history, abundant wildlife and unique experiences that Kenya has to offer.

We are happy to see impressive growth in both leisure and business segments from the Indian market in the recent years. The current growth rate of 28.9% is an indication of Kenya’s appeal to the Indian market.  To enrich the visitor experiences the Board will continue to focus on MICE and other niche products including eco-tourism”, said Dr. Mohanjeet Brar – Director, Kenya Tourism Board.
