Umang Narula appointed as Chairman and Managing Director of ITDC

Umang Narula has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director (C&MD) of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) 

Umang Narula succeeds Girish Shankar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism who was also holding additional charge of Managing Director, ITDC. Narula, 49, an IAS officer of 1989 batch, Jammu and Kashmir cadre, was the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu & Kashmir prior to this role. As CEO of Jammu & Kashmir, he successfully conducted the Lok Sabha Elections and the J&K State Assembly elections in 2014. He was also Deputy Secretary in the Department of Culture under the Union Ministry of Tourism and Culture in 1998-2002. He also worked as a Director in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). In Jammu and Kashmir, he was Deputy Commissioner in Kargil and later shifted to Anantnag district. The other departments he served in the State include Industry & Commerce, Rural Development and Election department among others.

For his outstanding contribution, Narula received the Best State Award from the Election Commission of India for conducting the elections in 2014 and taking innovative steps to increase voter turnout (Jan 2015). He was awarded the “Chief Ministers Gold Medal for Honesty, Integrity and Meritorious Public Service” in 2012. Narula was also awarded the Late V.K.N. Menon Gold medal for obtaining First position in the Advanced Professional Programme in Public Administration conducted by the Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, India (2002-03). Also for successful conduction of the Parliament and Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir Narula was awarded Silver medal by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir.
