Haryana signs MoU with AAI to develop Hisar airport as International Aviation Hub

In what can be seen as a boost to the aviation sector in Haryana, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday between the Haryana government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in New Delhi for development of the International Aviation Hub at Hisar.

While advisor, civil aviation, Ashok Sangwan signed the MoU on behalf of the state, head of business management Anil Kumar Gupta signed on behalf of the AAI. The development has taken place after a detailed study of various projects or models in the country and the impact on grassroots development of the Rohtak-Hisar-Sirsa Region by 2030.

A spokesman of Haryana civil aviation department said that Hisar has been notified by the central government in Bharat Mala Project with exciting possibilities for a Delhi-Sirsa Economic Corridor and connection to Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) via Rohtak-Rewari link. The corridor has potential to emerge as an economic enabler for the region and would completely transform the region in years to come. The International Aviation Hub is proposed to be developed around the existing Civil Airstrip at Hisar, he added.

The spokesman said that the state has already reserved 4,200 acres of land adjoining the pre-existing airstrip, to be utilized for the project. The proposed aviation hub envisages a 9,000 feet runway with International standards airport, ample parking for Airlines and General Aviation (GA) operators, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities, Aerospace University, global training centre for pilots, engineers and ground handling staff and Residential and Commercial Development. He said that the department has pitched with Airline Operators for sub-basing of their aircraft at Hisar for night parking and routine maintenance). The operators have evinced keen interest in the proposal, he further added.

The construction of a large apron, small passenger terminal and three hangars to accommodate A320 type of aircraft are being expedited for implementation of UDAN II from upgraded Hisar Airport in the interim. A joint working group comprising domain experts has been constituted to guide the state government in developing Aviation Hub at Hisar. Sources said that the department is also in the process to plan and develop a future ready infrastructure for aviation activities in Bhiwani, Narnaul, Pinjore and Karnal.
