Train to Calcutta four days a week
The Kanchanjungha Express will run between Agartala and Calcutta for four days a week from Thursday. The express train used to run once a week till now, officials said. A Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official told reporters that the revised train timings would come into effect from Thursday. He added that a train service between Agartala and Deoghar in Jharkhand is likely to start from this month.
In March, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb had sought a direct train to Deoghar to facilitate easy movement of devotees to the temple of Hindu sect leader Anukulchandra.
According to the revised schedule, the Rajdhani Express will depart Agartala railway station every Monday. The Humsafar Express will leave for Bangalore on Tuesdays. The Kanchanjungha Express will start for Sealdah railway station in Bengal the same day. The Tripurasundari Express, which connects Tripura with Anand Vihar station in Delhi is slated to leave on the same day.
Apart from these, passenger trains will run between Silchar in Assam and Agartala and a few other destinations in the state itself.
