New airport opens in Punjab
City of Bathinda gets connected with new hub!
India has improved connectivity to its northern Punjab region with the opening of a new airport.
The country’s Civil Aviation Minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, inaugurated the new hub in the historic city of Bathinda recently, in the company of Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab.
“This will create more employment avenues and lead to all round prosperity”, Badal was reported saying. The opening forms part of a major expansion of Punjab’s aviation sector; the Economic Times reports that an additional airport has been approved for development at Adampur, as part of a “string of [new] airports” across the state.
Located in Punjab’s Malwa region, 227 km west of state capital Chandigarh, Bathinda is the fifth largest city in India’s Punjab. Initially, the new airport will be served three times a week from Delhi.
