American musical group ‘The Sound of Music’ to perform for the first time in South Asia
The group will perform in Sri Lanka from February 14 to February 18, 2018
Cinnamon Life in partnership with Broadway Asia is set to present the world’s most loved musicals of all time, ‘The Sound of Music’ for the very first time in Sri Lanka. From 14th to 18th February, 2018 the 1965 American musical will be performed at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapaksa Theatre in Colombo. Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian’s Really Useful Group production of The Sound of Music will be the first of a series of events that will make Colombo a hub for entertainment in the region.
The Sound of Music has received 6 Tony Awards and 5 Academy Awards and brims over with some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical theatre stage; My Favourite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and the most iconic The Sound of Music to name a few. Known as one of the most critically-acclaimed productions in history, the iconic musical will be brought to life by Broadway Asia Company, one of the best entertainment and live touring bodies in the world. With seven shows including two Matinee shows over the weekend, all sets, production equipment and a total crew of 66 members from Broadway Asia will be flown in especially for the tour by Cinnamon Life. Moreover, twelve children from Sri Lanka will have the opportunity to play the Von Trapp Children alongside the play’saward-winning international star cast.
The Sri Lankan audience is in for a world class experience that has made its mark on some of the world’s most revered stages including those on the West End and Broadway. The Sound of Music will be the first-ever international scale theatre production to take place in Sri Lanka and will help pave the way for Cinnamon Life to host even more large-scale entertainment productions in the future. To encourage Indian tourists to witness this musical extravaganza, Cinnamon has created exclusive packages starting –at INR 16316. The tariff includes two overnight stays with breakfast at any one of Cinnamon’s luxury properties like the Cinnamon Red Colombo, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo or Cinnamon Grand Colombo, tickets to The Sound of Music show coupled with transfers.
