Singapore-based LCC to start flying to Chennai, Amritsar and Jaipur
Scoot has revealed plans for a major push into India with the launch of flights to three destinations: Chennai, Amritsar and Jaipur.
The Singapore-based low-cost carrier’s Indian expansion will kick off on 24 May 2016 with the start of direct daily flights to Chennai and three weekly flights to Amritsar. The Singapore-Amritsar route will initially run every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, before Scoot adds a fourth weekly flight (every Monday) on 1 July 2016.
Then on 2 October 2016, the airline will launch four weekly flights (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays) direct between Singapore and Jaipur.
All three routes will be served using Scoot’s fleet of two-class Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
“Scoot is excited to expand our network to India, our latest market, which we have long wanted to operate to,” said Scoot’s CEO, Campbell Wilson. “We are delighted to enable guests in our network to discover the energy, heart and beauty of India by flying our brand new 787 Dreamliners… to the commercial centre of southern India, Chennai, and the culturally significant cities of Amritsar and Jaipur.”
On the Chennai route, flights will depart Singapore’s Changi Airport at 2255 and arrive in the south Indian city at 0010. The return flight will then leave Chennai at 0120 and arrive back in Singapore at 0825.
The Amritsar flights will take off from Changi at 0900 and touch down in the Punjabi city at 1210. The return services will then depart at 1320 and land in Singapore at 2145.
And finally, the Jaipur flights will leave Singapore at 2035 and arrive in Rajasthan’s ‘Pink City’ at 2330. The return flights will then depart Jaipur at 0040 and arrive back in Singapore at 0845.
The arrival of Scoot in India will mean that all five of Singapore Airlines’ carriers will operate in the country, including SIA, SilkAir, Tigerair, Scoot and Vistara.
Scoot currently flies to 17 destinations and will further expand in the coming months, with the launch of flights Jeddah on 2 May and Sapporo on 1 October.
