Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach, AccorHotels’ largest all-sea facing convention centre on India’s Eastern coast, successfully hosted the ‘International Fleet Review 2016’, the largest international event by the Indian Navy. The event was spread over four days from February 5th to 8th. Aimed at fostering mutual trust and respect amongst participating countries, the second edition of the International Fleet Review in India was held at a much larger scale with 52 countries participating this year. The International Fleet Review made its first debut in 2001 in Mumbai.
The event was highlighted with a gala dinner held at the hotel for 500 guests including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Madhav Bellamkonda, T. S. Thakur, Chief Justice of India, Honorable N. Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Governor of Andhra Pradesh, E. S. L. Narasimhan, General Manager of Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach and V. Prabhu Kishore, Owner of the Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach. The grand property successfully managed to host a series of activities to support the event with outdoor catering for 12,000 International Fleet Review attendees and participants. The team packed 48,000 packets of food for the five day event and served close to 50,000 guests at the event.
“It is a matter of great pride for us to be able to host an international event of such repute and magnitude,” said Madhav Bellamkonda, General Manager, Novotel Visakhapatnam Varun Beach. “The hotel has surpassed all expectations in executing the job in a banquet space spread over five acres with more than 120 buffet counters and 1400 staff members, one main kitchen and two satellite kitchens. It has been a grand success for us”, he informed.
While commenting on the arrangements made by the hotel, Admiral Robin Dhowan, Chief of Naval Staff and host of International Fleet Review 2016, said, “The Novotel hotel Varun Beach provided the grand stand view for the event and was the centerpiece of our hospitality arrangements for IFR 2016.”
