Tourism Malaysia Promotes MYFest 2015 in India
Tourism Malaysia has launched Malaysia Year of Festivals (MYFest) 2015 with the theme ‘Endless Celebrations’ to showcase and celebrate the country’s bountiful and diverse cultures and festivities as a tourist attraction.
Tourism Malaysia has kicked off the current year as the “Year of Festivals”(MYFest 2015) themed on endless celebrations in an attempt to flaunt its variegated culture and festivals. Proboscis Monkey has been chosen as the mascot for MYFest 2015 campaign. With India emerging as the sixth highest tourist-generating market for Malaysia and keeping in mind the surge in the flow of Indian tourists and to raise awareness on MYFest 2015, Tourism Malaysia launched its Sales Mission drive and moved across five cities of India from February 9 to 17, this year.
Travelling to Malaysia is highly convenient for Indian tourists since there are 165 direct weekly flights from Indian cities to the country. Pitching for two-way tourism between both India and Malaysia, Dato’ Azizan Noordin, Deputy Director General (Planning), Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board explained, “Indian tourists fly down to Malaysia to experience adventure tourism and diving. It is the young Indian travellers with strong spending power who mostly jet off to Malaysia. We are targeting the Indian tourist market in order to offer a thrust to our incentive travel, education tourism, honeymoon travel and high-end tourism. Of late, global tourism has surged by 140 per cent in our country and we have around 5 per cent of MICE visitors from India.” He also pointed out that there are new tourist destinations waiting to be explored like Johor and Melaka.
Among the world’s top 10 largest shopping malls, three malls are in Malaysia including Utama, Mid Valley Mega Mall and Sunway Pyramid. It also has the Sunway Lagoon’s surf beach that figures as the world’s largest manmade surf beach. Legoland Theme Park marked a turnout of nearly 1.5 million tourists when it opened its doors in 2012. The pleasant surprises for MYFest 2015 are International Shoe Festival, F1 Motor GP races, Malaysia Mega Sale carnival and Year End Sale from November 2015 to January 2016.
Dato’ Azizan said, “Our travel agents are working to offer discounts to Senior citizens and students from India looking head to visit Malaysia. Around 23 million global travellers headed to our country last year and the figure is expected to reach 25 million this year. There were nearly 6,43,335 Indians touching down Malaysia in 2014 and this year, we hope to draw at least 8 lakh Indians. We had nearly 10,000 tourists from Bengal going to Malaysia last year.”

- International Shoe Festival.
- F1 Motor GP races.
- Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival and year-end carnival.
- Mitsui Outlet Park or the factory outlet shopping mall to open its doors in August, 2015.
