SriLankan Airlines Progresses with Fleet Renewal Plan
SriLankan Airlines will take delivery of its fifth brand new Airbus A330-300 aircraft next week, as it progresses with its fleet renewal plan. The national carrier embarked on the programme in October 2014, when it took delivery of its first 297-seat, two-class A330-300. A further three have since been delivered, including two in 2015.
The fifth new A330-300 will touch down in Colombo on 10 November and will be deployed on long-haul routes to Europe and the Far East. The airline’s final two A330s are scheduled to be delivered by the end of the year.
“With the anticipated cost reductions and improved efficiencies from these fuel-efficient aircraft and with their product appeal, we are confident of positioning the Airline in achieving better yields and revenues,” said SriLankan’s CEO, Captain Suren Ratwatte.
“The response so far with the four recently acquired A330-300s has been very positive, reflecting enhanced customer satisfaction on the superior features and comfort levels of the aircraft, which inspires us to further improve our brand to make it synonymous with aspirational travel and experiences.”
All the new aircraft come equipped with 28 seats in business class and 269 in economy, plus an Android-based in-flight entertainment system in both cabins, and in-flight Wi-Fi. The airline said it is now planning to expand its medium- and long-haul operations, including the “possibility of exploring more destinations”.
