SpiceJet to Start Flight Service to Bangkok from Coimbatore

Budget airline SpiceJet will commence operations from Coimbatore to Bangkok, through Chennai, from December 10. The services will be for a limited period till March 26. There are already flights from here to Singapore (Silk Air) four days a week, and to Sharjah (Air Arabia) five days a week.

SpiceJet sources said that their flights to Bangkok will be operated on all days a week except Tuesdays. The flight to Suvarnabhumi Airport at Bangkok will take off from Coimbatore at 11.10 a.m. It will reach Chennai at 12.15 p.m.

Passengers would get a connection flight from Chennai at 10.10 p.m. (after a transit time of nine hours and 55 minutes) and reach Bangkok at 3.05 a.m. (local time).

Boarding passes to Bangkok will be issued at Coimbatore. Flights from Bangkok will reach Chennai at 5.55 a.m. on all days except Wednesdays. The connection flight to Coimbatore from Chennai will be at 9.30 a.m. to reach Coimbatore at 10.40 a.m.

Fly Dubai is awaiting a response from the Ministry to commence services to Dubai from Coimbatore. Spice Jet too had evinced an interest to operate flight services to Dubai. Air Asia has expressed interest to operate flight services to Bangkok and Kulala Lumpur. Tiger Airways is interested in operating services to Singapore.

Malindo of Malaysia wanted to operate to Coimbatore. Because of restrictions in Bilateral Air Services Agreement it then opted to operate to Trichy and Kochi. Thai Air has reportedly conducted a study to operate services from here to Bangkok. SriLankan Airlines wants to operate its services from Coimbatore to Colombo.

Twenty-three domestic flights operate from Coimbatore to New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati, and Bangalore.

There are connecting flights to Pune, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Bhubaneswar. The National Civil Aviation Policy expected to be released in January will further liberalise flight services between SAARC countries.
