Backpacks or Suitcase, which is better for a traveller?

For different kinds of vacations a traveller need different gear. One of the biggest choices most of travellers make as they leave for holidays is the choice between packing their stuff into a backpack or a suitcase. Both of them have their own strengths and weaknesses according to certain situations.

We can break down this luggage into three categories: suitcases (like carry-on roller bag), small backpacks (that could fit underneath the seat), and larger backpacks (that need to go in the overhead compartment). From here, what you need to do is to think on a few simple questions, such as, how long the trip will be, seasons of travelling, how much more travel you will be doing post arrival at the desired destination, what the infrastructure is like at the destination, and most importantly, how much you are planning to bringing back with you.

In case, you are travelling abroad and having to carry everything with you that you’ll need for a week, month or even longer period of time is very important to particularly think about to carry appropriate packing gear. In order to decide whether or not you want to carry your stuff on your back with a backpack or pack it using a suitcase is just to one more thing that you have worry about when your checklist is already enlisted with travel details as well as itineraries.

Finally making the choice: Travel Backpack vs. Suitcase

Before heading to your vacation destination, you can easily figure out if you should travel with a suitcase or backpack by answering the following basic questions:

Will you be spending most of your time in one place, or moving around a lot? - If you’re staying at one place then go with whatever suits you the best. If not, make sure not to get exhausted walking around with bulky luggage.

What’s your transportation going to be like? – If you’re renting a car, it’s a lot easier to bring any type of luggage, while a suitcase is bulky on public transportation (especially non-carry on sized).

How good is the infrastructure? Roads? Hotels? – If you’re going to a place where roads are good, have sidewalks, and hotels with elevators, your luggage type won’t matter much. If not, the definitely go for a backpack.

Is there any physical considerations which might affect your choice? – A bad back, for instance! As much as you might love to take a backpack, but it’s going to hurt your body then choose suitcase.

Worried about theft? – Make sure your bag can lock and if you are hard-shelled suitcases then not to worry they are pretty darned theft proof.

Easy to Pack and Keep Organized - In a suitcase you get proper space you space on both sides, makes it much easier to pack and keep organized during your trip. With a backpack you can either stuff everything from down to the bottom of it.

Conclusion – Who wins, the Backpacks or Suitcase?

As mentioned before, the choice mainly depends on your travel style and preference whether or not you want to travel with a backpack or a wheeled suitcase.
