Singapore welcomes 1 million tourist arrivals from India

Singapore Tourism Board celebrated the milestone achievement with in-flight celebratory experiences for passengers travelling to Singapore on 31 December 2015.

More than one million Indian travellers visited Singapore last year to celebrate Golden Jubilee, making it one of the most preferred destinations to vacation. Singapore Tourism Board announced on Wednesday that the nation recorded over 1 million visitor arrivals from India in 2015, marking a year-on-year growth of 7.4% in visitor arrivals.

To celebrate this landmark achievement, Singapore Tourism Board surprised all passengers flying to the country on December 31, 2015 with special in-flight celebratory experiences in partnership with 3 airlines, namely Air India, Jet Airways and Singapore Airlines.  Mr. Chee Pey Chang, Executive Director, South Asia, Middle East & Africa – Singapore Tourism Board said, “2015 was a landmark year for us as Singapore celebrated its Golden Jubilee. Last year, the Singapore Botanic Gardens was accredited as a UNESCO World Heritage site and the opening of the National Gallery Singapore and Indian Heritage Centre generated great interest among Indian travellers. We wanted to thank our friends from India for their encouraging support and we continue to welcome them to experience Singapore’s cultural and heritage gems, diverse food experiences and vibrant nightlife interspersed amidst Singapore’s eclectic lifestyle offerings.”

In conjunction with the One Million celebrations STB conducted contest to thank travellers flying on board these flights.  The winner of ‘Singapore’s One Million Moment’ contest, Mr. Sahil Shroff, who was travelling to Singapore with his family on board an Air India flight, was smiles as he received his award. He is all set to experience a never-seen-before side of Singapore as he will be flying Business Class, staying in a luxurious villa in Sentosa and drive around Singapore’s F1 circuit in a Lamborghini amongst other luxurious experiences. Hailing from Ahmedabad the 20-year-old student is busy chalking out his travel plans. Sahil is already busy chalking out his travel plans as he said, “I love Singapore. There’s so much to this country that you can never really experience in one trip. Everytime I return to Singapore, it’s a different experience. I’m excited to see what Singapore Tourism Board has planned for me and live life king size in Singapore. I just can’t wait to pack my bags for a much-awaited holiday.”
