Indian Railways to introduce scenic trains to promote tourism
In a bid to woo more passengers and promote tourism, India’s state-owned railways has decided to introduce state-of-the-art, glass-roofed Vistadome coaches in trains across the country.
“A total of 100 such coaches that will enable panoramic view will be added to several trains on different routes, particularly the tourist circuits. To start with, 20 such coaches will be introduced this year,” a senior Indian Railways official said Tuesday.
“The new coaches will be more or less like the scenic Swiss trains,” he added.
The Indian Railways is one of the world’s largest train networks, criss-crossing the country from north to south. It operates some 9,000 passenger trains and carries nearly 23 million passengers every day.
