Jet Airways to now allow just 1 check-in bag on domestic flights
If you are travelling with Jet Airways after July 15, you will only be allowed to carry one check-in baggage with you as the airline has revised the guidelines to follow a number-based check-in baggage policy.
Under the revised rules, an economy class passenger will be able to check in only one bag weighing 15 kg or less. Meanwhile, a premiere class passenger is allowed to carry two free check-in bags, each not more than 15 kg. The airline is the first in India to introduce restrictions on the number of check-in bags. The airline said Jet platinum card members travelling in economy class will also be able to carry two bags not exceeding 15 kg each.
However, the airline has not clarified about rules in case a passenger brings in excess number of bags. Currently, only excess weight attracts a fee.
Starting June 15, Jet will be moving to “single-bag concept” on flights within India. However, the rule doesn’t apply to booking done before June 14 and travel date before July 15, Jet Airlines rules specify on its website.
“Guests with bookings on or after Jun 15, 2018 for travel on or before Jul 14, 2018 will be entitled to free baggage allowance by weight of 15 kgs for travel in Economy and 30 kgs for travel in Première,” the airline said.

The airline also said that the restriction on the number of check in bags are been in place on international flights for about a year now.
Though a first for an Indian airline, several international carriers already have restrictions on the number of check-in bags. Airlines feel that fewer number of bags results in quicker turnaround time for the aircraft. Further, less number of bags also allow airlines to monetise the freed up space to carry extra cargo.
