GoAir launches direct flights from Mumbai to Leh

GoAir has launched a new service connecting Mumbai with Leh, the Himalayan city in the north Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Flights will now operate daily, direct from Mumbai and with a stop in Srinagar on the return leg. GoAir becomes the first airline operating this route. Flights depart Mumbai at 0400 and arrive in Leh at 0640. They then depart again at 0710 and arrive back in Mumbai at 1125, following the brief Srinagar stop.

Set 3,500 metres above sea-level, Leh is popular among tourists for its Buddhist sites and trekking opportunities. It is also home to the huge Leh Palace, which dates back to the 17th Century and was modelled on Potala Palace in Tibet.

Meanwhile, GoAir will also increase the frequencies of its Mumbai-Patna and Mumbai-Lucknow routes on 17 April.
