Piramal Museum of Art announces their September events

S.H. Raza: Traversing Terrains opened at the Piramal Museum of Art, Mumbai, on
24 June 2018 and will be on view till 16 December 2018. The exhibition is accompanied by a diverse programme of events including talks, film screenings, workshops and walk throughs designed to increase the accessibility of Raza’s work for a wide range of audiences.

Designed as an engaging and immersive exhibition, S.H. Raza: Traversing Terrains presents the story of Raza’s life from the early 1940s to the late 1990s through his paintings accompanied by rare archival photographs, diary extracts, and written correspondence between the artist and his contemporaries. The exhibition is curated by Vaishnavi Ramanathan, curator and art historian, Piramal Museum of Art, and Ashvin E. Rajagopalan, Director, Piramal Museum of Art, with exhibition design by Gallagher & Associates .

In keeping with the Piramal Museum of Art’s mission to make the exhibition accessible and engaging, an extensive outreach programme has been put together that draws upon key themes in Raza’s work and the narrative focus of the exhibition. After the success of the July and August events, the museum has announced an exciting series of events for September which include walk throughs, studio visits and art workshops.

September 15 : Children’s Workshop: Raza’s Bindu
Venue: Piramal Museum of Art, Lower Parel | Time: 10 am – 12 noon
Age group: 8 to 13 | Registration fee: INR 1000
Presented in collaboration with Art1st Publishing, this workshop is based on the book of the same name. The workshop endeavours to introduce children to the world of art through one of the most recognizable symbols in S.H. Raza’s artworks, the Bindu. The workshop will start with a reading session of the book followed by an interactive workshop led by the facilitator. Each participant will receive a copy of the book.

September 21: Art Night Friday: Mumbai Midtown Arts Collective
Venue: Piramal Museum of Art, Lower Parel | Time: 6 pm onward
Registration: Free
As a part of the newly established Mumbai Midtown Arts Collective, Piramal Museum of Art will participate in the second edition of Art Night Friday. The museum will remain open till 10pm, with special guided tours in English and Marathi.

September 29: Connect the Dots 2: In Raza’s Footsteps
Venue: Starting at Jehangir Art Gallery | Time: 9am onward
Capacity: 25 participants | Registration fee: 650 INR
This special guided walk conducted by Alisha Sadikot of Art Walks Mumbai will visit the places that Raza frequented during his early years in Mumbai.
