India to soon go ticketless in public transport

India will soon go ticketless in public transport as per the statement made by CEO of Niti Aayog Amitabh Kant. He recently announced it while speaking at the forum of the Future Mobility Summit 2018―India’s Move to NextGen Transport Systems in Delhi.

He said that the objective of the strategy is to plan for the citizens first, rather than focussing on vehicles alone, by providing sustainable mobility and accessibility by switching to cleaner mode of transportation. He further added that the robust transportation system is the backbone of any economy, especially for a densely populated country like India. Also, the focus of the nation’s mobility strategy should be on sustainable modes of public transport, transport oriented planning and digitization.

This new system will facilitate people to enjoy seamless connectivity within different and multiple modes of transport. In fact, the new One-Nation-One-Card policy is likely to take away the concern of passengers of worrying about cash or different cards for different modes of transportation system.

As per the latest news reports, the programme once implemented will enable passengers to travel across India with just a single card, which they can use to pay for any mode of transport system. Moreover, the new policy will bring India on par with Singapore, London, and other global metropolises, where using single card has been a norm.

The CEO also mentioned that while putting the new transportation policy in action, the authorities will take into consideration the ease of payment, along with the increasing air pollution in the country. It is, therefore, expected that the new system will focus on being less polluting, eco-friendly, and convenient for people.
