Introducing the Utah Film Trail, Starring Utah’s Iconic Landscapes

A cinematic journey through America’s Film Set® now made more immersive with trail markers across iconic filming locations

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH | April 19, 2025 – Utah, famously known as America’s Film Set®, has long been the backdrop for some of Hollywood’s most celebrated films and television shows. With over 100 years of film history, the state now invites film enthusiasts from around the world to step into the scenes of their favorite productions through the newly launched Utah Film Trail.

A series of physical markers have been placed across the state at iconic filming locations, allowing visitors to explore the real-world settings of legendary movies and shows.

Now, the Utah Film Trail will take you off the beaten path to discover the settings of made-in-Utah films and television shows you’ve fallen in love with.”

Film Tourism: A Gateway to Cultural Exchange

Film tourism has significantly contributed to Utah’s appeal among international travelers. In 2024, the Utah Film Commission celebrated 100 years of film and television production with a series of events and exhibits, highlighting the state’s cinematic legacy. A curated version of the exhibit will now be showcased at Salt Lake City International Airport, welcoming travelers with a taste of Utah’s movie magic.

“Visitors have been drawn to Utah’s image in film and television for over a century, and the economic impact is significant,” said Natalie Randall, Managing Director, Utah Office of Tourism & Film. “The Utah Film Trail allows visitors to experience Utah through a different lens.”

Indian Travelers and Filmmakers: Discover the Cinematic Soul of Utah

With Indian audiences increasingly engaging with international cinema and locations, the Utah Film Trail offers unique storytelling and filming potential for Indian productions. The dramatic red rock canyons, salt flats, deserts, alpine forests, and charming small towns are versatile backdrops, ideal for romantic songs, adventure films, or period dramas.

As per a 2023 study, 37% of visitors to Utah cited film and television as key influences in choosing the destination. With film tourism on the rise globally, Utah continues to inspire both filmmakers and travelers alike.
