Flights to initially run via Bangkok, with direct service potentially to follow

Indonesia could be set for a tourism boost from India following the launch of a new flight service linking Jakarta with Mumbai. Garuda Indonesia commenced the new route on 12 December 2016, with flights initially operating via Bangkok. If these services are a success however, Garuda plans to serve the route non-stop.

“We will see how it goes in two or three months; if the results are good, we will make it direct flights,” Garuda’s president director, Arif Wibowo, was reported saying by local news site, Tempo.

The Jakarta-Bangkok-Mumbai route will run three times a week using a single-aisle Boeing 737 aircraft. Flights depart the Indonesian capital’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 1255 and arrive in Mumbai at 2030. Despite being two of the world’s most populous countries, there are no direct scheduled flights between India and Indonesia.
