SilkAir to start flying to Sri Lanka
SilkAir will launch its first flights to Sri Lanka next year, as it takes over some of Singapore Airlines’ Colombo services.
Effective 8 April 2017, the regional airline will start operating three weekly flights direct between Singapore and Colombo, replacing SIA’s existing service. SIA will continue to operate daily flights to the Sri Lankan capital.
SilkAir’s new service will operate every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, with same-day return flights from Colombo. The route will be operated using a two-class Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
“Colombo is a fitting addition to our network. SilkAir is happy to continually bring our customers to more unique cities in the region, and increased connectivity via Singapore,” stated SilkAir’s chief executive, Foo Chai Woo.
SilkAir has been gradually taking over SIA’s regional routes in recent years, as the mainline carrier focuses on serving key cities and long-haul destinations.
