India’s GoAir takes off with huge aircraft order

GoAir, the Indian low-cost carrier has confirmed a multi-billion dollar aircraft order with Airbus.

Following an initial deal signed at last year’s Farnborough International Airshow, GoAir has now confirmed the order for 72 Airbus A320neo aircraft worth US$7.8bn at current list prices. This doubles the number of new aircraft GoAir has on order, to 144.
At present, the LCC operates a fleet of just 23 aircraft, so the new deliveries will transform the scope of GoAir’s operations.

“This new order will further strengthen our network by adding more domestic and international routes in the years to come,” said GoAir’s managing director & CEO, Wolfgang Prock-Schauer. Having been eclipsed by its rivals, including IndiGo, in recent years, GoAir is now ramping up its operations. This coincides with a period of strong growth within the Indian aviation industry, most notably in the domestic sector.

GoAir took delivery of its first A320neo in June 2016 and now operates a four of the new single-aisle jets, along with 19 standard A320s. The new aircraft are all expected to feature 186 economy class seats.
