Mövenpick makes Sri Lankan debut with landmark tower
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has entered Sri Lanka with the launch of a new property in the country’s capital, Colombo.
The new Mövenpick Hotel Colombo becomes the city’s first new international five-star property in 25 years, and is set to be a new landmark in Colombo. Rising 24 floors from street-level, the hotel offers 219 rooms and suites plus a series of high-rise, high-end facilities with views of the Indian Ocean.
The diamond-patterned exterior of the tower will also be eye-catching, with a hanging garden featuring more than 14,310 plants.
“We are offering guests a vertical experience like no other, giving them the opportunity to view the beauty of Colombo from a new perspective,” said Andreas Mattmüller, Mövenpick’s chief operating officer for the Middle East & South Asia. “Mövenpick Hotel Colombo is an inspirational modern landmark that… signifies a new era of prosperity for an island nation re-energised and undergoing rapid development.”
Mövenpick Hotel Colombo is likely to become a major new F&B venue in the city, with seven outlets including French, Japanese and international restaurants and a rooftop bar. The hotel’s fitness centre is set 100 metres above the ground, while there is also a spa and a rooftop pool. For the MICE market the hotel features five meeting rooms and a boardroom.
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is now present in three South Asian countries: India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The country’s Sri Lankan debut also follows the recent opening of Indonesia’s first Mövenpick Hotel, located in Bali.
