Two express trains get superfast status
The Sambalpur-Nanded-Sambalpur and Visakhapatnam-Nanded-Visakhapatnam are among the express trains that have been upgraded to superfast trains by the ministry of railways.
Railway authorities said the average speed of Express trains would go up after getting converted into the category of superfast trains and these trains will be renumbered from the second half of May. The train number 18309 Sambalpur-Nanded Nagavali Express will be renumbered as 12755 with effect from May 26. The train on its return journey will be renumbered from 18310 to 12756 from May 27.
Similarly, the train number 18509 Visakhapatnam-Nanded Express will be renumbered as 12753 with effect from May 27. The train on its return journey will be renumbered from 18510 to 12754 from May 28, a media release said.
The Machilipatnam-Secunderabad-Machilipatnam is another express train that will now run as superfast train. The details regarding revised timing of these trains will be available online on designated websites. The railway authorities, however, did not have specific information about the exact change that will take place in terms of speed for these trains.
Reacting to these changes, rail passengers said a few trains passing from Nanded division of the South Central Railways should have also been considered. “The selection of a few long-distance trains would not have left any room for feelings that Marathwada has been again ignored by the railway ministry,” said Shripad Ratnaparkhe, a rail commuter.
The railway authorities on Thursday announced temporary stoppage of 10 Express trains at Gangapur station till February 14 for Magh Utsav. Located in Gulbarga district of Karnataka, the temple town is visited by large number of devotees every year during the festival.
The trains that will halt here are Mumbai CST-Hyderabad Express (17031), Hyderabad-Mumbai CST Express (17032), Mumbai CST-Nagercoil Express (16339), Nagercoil-Mumbai CST Express Train (16340), Mumbai-Nagercoil Balaji Express (16351), Nagercoil-Mumbai Balaji Express (16352), Mumbai CST-Thiruvananthapuram Weekly Express (16331), Thiruvananthapuram-Mumbai CST Weekly Express (16332), Visakhapatnam-Mumbai LTT Express (18519) and Mumbai LTT-Visakhapatnam Express (18520).
