Sierra Nevada ski resort in Andalusia is hosting the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships 2017 between 7th and 19th March. One of the biggest events of the season that gathers 777 athletes from 50 countries worldwide who will compete for the number 1 spot.

A chance to enjoy spectacular ski races. The freestyle and snowboard formats guarantee eye-catching backflips and fascinating maneuvers in the air. During the championship, the Sierra Nevada will host a total of 13 world finals with four of them also being at night.

Sierra Nevada Ski Resort located in Granada, where we can find the highest peaks in the Iberian peninsula, has been chosen by the FIS committee as the perfect stage to hold their annual freestyle competition in both categories: freestyle ski and snowboard. This is the second largest event placed in Sierra Nevada after the World Alpine Ski Championship in 1996. Hence, Sierra Nevada is the only European skiing complex which has hosted two major events in both categories.

In order to accomplish the best outcome, authorities and local businesses are fully involved in this event which aims to be a perfect opportunity to show its modern and renewed skiing facilities, wide range of hospitality services and variety of activities that can be practiced within the resort as in the city of Granada itself or on the Costa Cálida coastline.

The starting point of the competition is scheduled on March 7 at Granada Conference Center when his Majesty the King Felipe VI and the Organizing Committee of Sierra Nevada 2017will attend the delegations’ parade and receive the FIS flag from the Austrian Committee. During the days following up to 13 championship finals will take place till the closing ceremony at Andalusian Square on March 19th.

For visitors, there will be more than ninety skiable kilometers to practice their favorite winter sports while the competitions are held. Furthermore, a complete program of activities could be enjoyed during those days at the official sponsors´ tents located at Pradollano Square or listen to live music at Andalusia Square. A Fun Zone will be also placed at Plaza del Humilladero in Granada where fans could follow the streaming of night races on giant screens.

As shown in the Sierra Nevada World Economic Impact report, the event will generate € 16.1 million and 1.500 new jobs. The budget for organizing the Championships is equal to €6.62 million, distributed between promotion, marketing and TV production, ceremonies and events (€1.86 million), construction of sports settings and equipment (€1.55 million), organization services from federation for coaches and teams (€1.24 million), boarding and lodging services (€1.14 million) and staff (€0.83 million).
