Visa Note & Fees

Tourist (Visitor Visa- subclass 600)

Applicant can visit Australia just as a tourist or as business visitors.

Tourist can enjoy vacations and recreation along with family and friends.

Business visitor mainly involves in conferences, negotiations or other business activities.

The Visitor visa (subclass 600) is meant for those people who are willing to visit Australia as tourists, business visitors or to visit family. It is just a temporary visa.

 General Requirements:

  • Applicants need to submit Notary attested photocopy of all pages of passport, including the bio-data page, alterations page and back page of the passport.
  • One latest clicked passport sized photograph (45 mm x 35 mm) pasted on the application form.
  • Attested photocopies of birth certificates that include names of both the parents
  • Certificate of Health and Police Clearance
  • Children younger than 18 years must provide ‘no objection certificate (NOC)’ by any non-accompanying parent authorizing their travel to Australia along with the copies of their passports.

Extra Requirements for Tourist Stream

  • Duly filled application forms (Form 1419) for a Visitor Visa- Tourist Visitor Stream.
  • A letter of invitation from applicant’s friend or relative in Australia along with the proof of necessary funds
  • If the applicant is visiting Australia for daughter / daughter-in-law’s pregnancy, a letter from a medical doctor about the same needs to be attached along with the form.
  • If the applicant is going for a medical treatment, a letter from the hospital / doctor about the same is required
  • Details of lodging, activities along with day-wise itineraries.

Proof of Funds:

  • Bank statements of last 6 months
  • Copies of documents representing other funds or assets
  • Proof of Income Tax returns for the last 3 years
  • If applicant’s visit is paid by someone else (friend or relative) in Australia, then a Statutory Declaration of the same with an evidence of their financial capacity
  • Also submit the proof of applicant’s financial capacity

Employment Details:

  • A cover letter from the employer, stating your post, salary, employment duration, confirming your leave along with the name and other contact details of the person providing the letter
  • If applicant is a businessman: Business registration number
  • If applicant is retired: evidence of your retirement
  • If applicant is a student: Enrollment evidence from his / her educational institute
  • Provide proof of Overseas Health Insurance, if applicant is over 75 years of age or requesting a stay of over 12 months.
  • AusAID student or recipient: A letter of support from the AusAID Minister.
  • Applicants have to submit certified copies of original documents. They need not include original documents if particularly asked by the department. Documents not in English should be accompanied with official English translations.

Note: The Visa Application Charges will not be refunded in case of refusal on the account of not fulfilling its requirement.

  • If visa is granted, the visa holder will be provided a visa grant letter explaining the conditions of the visa including its validity and requirements of entry. Carry this visa grant letter with you in order to make your journey at ease.
  • The visa fees should be paid as bank draft in favor of “Australian High Commission” payable in New Delhi. Other option for payment of visa fees in cash is available at VFS Visa Application Centre (Only in India).

Temporary Business Entry (Temporary Work Visa- subclass 400)

  • Applicants need to submit Notary attested photocopy of all pages of passport, including the bio-data page, back page and alterations page of the passport.
  • An application form (Form 1400) duly-filled in and signed by the applicants applying for a Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa.
  • If your applicant’s partner is included in the application: a photocopy of marriage certificate or any authentic evidence proving the relationship
  • One recent passport sized photograph (45 mm x 35 mm) of each person clicked against a white background pasted over the application form.
  • Name of the applicant must be printed on his / her photograph
  • Attested photocopies of birth certificates that include names of both the parents
  • If applicant is participating in any event, its invitation letter along with a covering letter stating his / her role in the event should be attached with application,
  • Proof of any kind of work/specialize work/conference/freelance job applicant will be going to do there
  • AusAID student or recipient: A supporting letter from the AusAID Minister

Proof of Funds:

  • Applicants must provide the proof of sufficient funds
  • Professional qualifications certificates
  • Applicant’s current employment and role during his / her visit to Australia
  • Details of previous conversation with business associates or organizations in Australia
  • Pay the visa application charge or submit the following documents so that you don’t need to pay it:
  1. For an amateur participant of sports or to assist a part-time participant/team: invitation letter of the event, providing this information
  2. To be a representative of a foreign government: a letter from ministry or government.
  • If you are participating in an activity specified in a legislative instrument: proof from the inviting organization that you are in that class of people

Medical Treatment Visa (subclass 602)

  • It is a temporary visa for all kinds of medical treatment/consultation in Australia.
  • It must be noted that this visa can’t be applied to have medical treatment for surrogate motherhood.
  • For this medical visa, you have to fulfill financial, health and character requirements
  • Applicants having a medical condition that may be a threat to public health are not permitted.
  • Not holding any of the following visas:
  1. Domestic Worker (Diplomatic/Consular) Visa (the original subclass 426 visa)
  2. The Domestic Worker stream of the Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (the original subclass 403 visa)

Financial requirements

  • Applicant must provide the proof of having sufficient money to maintain his / her and having a medical treatment while being in Australia. Applicant must also show that he / she have made arrangements for treatment & all expenses related to the stay.
  • Applicant should show that payment for any treatment in a public hospital has been approved by the treating hospital.
  • Submit Notary attested copy of all the pages of current passport, including the bio data page, alterations and back page of the passport. (Please note, VFS Global can certify a copy of your passport at their office at the time of Submission).
  • An application form 48ME filled-in and signed by the Applicant.
  • One recent passport-size photograph (45 mm x 35 mm) of each person pasted front application form clicked against a plain background.
  • Name of the person should be printed on his / her photograph
  • Children younger than 18 years must provide ‘no objection certificate’ by any non-accompanying parent authorizing their travel to Australia along with the copies of their passports
  • Form 1229 Consent form to grant an Australian visa to a child under the age of 18 years.
  • If the applicant is below than 18 years of age and has to stay in Australia with anyone else, present a declaration signed by the person who will be responsible for the applicant in Australia
  • Form 1257 Undertaking declaration.
  • All medical documents
  • Submit a letter from the treating doctor in Australia stating your medical condition and the treatment that will be required, including an assessment of the timeframe and cost for the treatment
  • If you are going to have treatment in a public hospital, a letter about payment arrangements is necessary.
  • Applicant must make sure that no Australian will be deprived in accessing medical services because of his / her treatment.
  • If visa is granted, the visa holder will be provided a visa grant letter explaining the conditions of the visa including its validity and entry requirements. Carry this visa grant letter with you in order to make journey at ease.
  • The visa fees should be paid as a bank draft in favor of “Australian High Commission” payable in New Delhi. Other option for payment of visa fees in cash is available at VFS Visa Application Centre (Only in India).

Non-Business Temporary Residence (147)

Applicants doesn’t need to submit their original passports now along with the Visa application with the introduction of Label free Visa regime, when applying through one of the VFS Global Australian Visa Application Centers across India or Nepal or lodging directly with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, will no longer be required to submit their passport with their visa application.

Instead, they will be required to submit a notary attested copy of each used page of their passport at the time of application.

The notary attested copy of the passport must include the following pages:

  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of the bio-data page of the current passport;
  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of any endorsement page or change of name page in the current passport;
  • For current Indian passports – good quality notary attested photocopy of the back page with information on parents’ names and previous passports.
  • This request applies to all visa categories. Applicants who do not lodge the above documents with their visa application might experience delays in the processing of their visa application.
  • Temporary Residence visas allow people to live or work in Australia for a limited time, for instance as entertainers, religious workers, sports people and those seeking further training in their occupational field. Most subclasses need sponsorship by an Australian organization which must be approved by a DIMA Office in Australia.
  • Visa fee should be paid through bank draft payable to the “Australian High Commission” in New Delhi and “Australian Consulate General” Mumbai for the amount of INR 10300.

Suggested documentation to submit along with visa application:

  • Proof of Employer’s approved nomination (obligatory requirement), if applying as a Regional Worker, Medical Practitioner, Occupational Trainee (unless training with the Australian Government).
  • For all other cases, if intended to stay in Australia for over 3 months, either a formal nomination or a letter of Invitation from sponsor in Australia should be attached.
  • Proof of professional qualifications (if Applicant is a medical practitioner, he / she must include a copy of medical registration certificate).
  • Proof of employment experience for last 5 years with all documents and details (if any)
  • If applying for an entertainment or sport visa, proof of cultural/sporting performances, including participation in national/international events along with training/photos/newspaper clippings should be enclosed.
  • If applying for a religious worker visa, evidence of religious activities (qualifications / training / experience / photos / newspaper clippings).
  • Birth certificate for each Applicant (Applicants who do not have a birth certificate may submit their Secondary or Higher School Certificate issued by the relevant State Education Board).
  • Marriage certificate (if spouse is included in the application).
  • For dependents of Religious Workers, Entertainers, Media and Film Staff, a formal sponsorship from Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, clearly mentioning the Employer’s intention to extend sponsorship obligations to the dependants is needed.
  • The processing time varies according to workload and season, usually taking up to one week. However, it is advisable to submit the application 2 weeks before intended date of travel. Time taken finally depends on the need of a medical examination, additional documentation or an interview.
  • If a visa is then granted, the visa holder will be issued with a visa grant letter explaining the conditions of the visa including period of validity and entrance necessities.
  • The visa grant letter is not necessary to facilitate travel but it is advised to carry the visa grant letter with travelers while travelling as it will provide them easy to understand information about the conditions of the visa, information which was not always easy to find on Australian visa labels.
  • The visa fees must be paid as bank draft in favor of, “Australian High Commission” payable at New Delhi. Alternate payment option is available at VFS Visa Application Centre (Only in India) for payment of visa fees in cash, at a service charge of INR 57 (inclusive of all taxes) per application.

Temporary Business Entry Long Stay (1066)

Applicants doesn’t need to submit their original passports now along with the Visa application with the introduction of Label free Visa regime when applying through one of the VFS Global Australian Visa Application Centers across India or Nepal or lodging directly with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, will no longer be required to submit their respective passport with their visa application. Instead, applicants will be required to submit a notary attested copy of each used page of their passport at the time of application.

The notary attested copy of the passport must include the following pages:

  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of the bio-data page of the current passport;
  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of any endorsement page or change of name page in the current passport;
  • For current Indian passports - good quality notary attested photocopy of the back page with information on parents’ names and previous passports.
  • This request applies to all visa categories. Applicants who do not lodge the above documents with their visa application may experience delays in the processing of their visa application.
  • The long stay temporary business visa (subclass 457) covers both skilled specialists and business executives. Visas may be granted for a period between 3 months and 4 years. Persons wishing to apply under either of these two categories must lodge a subclass 457 visa using application form 1066 and visa fee, in the form of a bank draft payable to the “Australian High Commission” in New Delhi and “Australian Consulate General Mumbai.
  • Four recent passport size photographs of each Applicant.
  • Proof of Employer’s approved nomination and sponsorship (letters from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs in Australia).
  • Proof of professional qualifications.
  • Proof of employment experience of last 5 years. Total period, if Applicant has been in service for less than that in the form of employment references, duty statements, appointment and resignation letters, i-cards. Please provide any two of the requisite documents which confirm the period of employment with each employer.
  • Birth certificate for each Applicant (at least Secondary or Higher School Certificate issued by the relevant State Education Board)
  • Marriage certificate (if spouse is included in application OR applies subsequently) along with wedding photographs
  • For dependents, applying subsequently and not already included in the nomination, a letter of support from Applicant’s employer visibly mentioning the intention of the employer to extend its sponsorship obligations to the dependents.
  • Original documents should be submitted along with photocopies and will be returned when after processing.
  • Its processing time may vary. So, submit the application 4-6 weeks prior to the intended date of travel. Total time taken depends on the need for a medical examination, additional documentation or an interview.
  • If a visa is then granted, the visa holder will be issued with a visa grant letter that will explain the conditions of the visa including period of validity and entrance necessities.
  • The visa grant letter is not necessary to facilitate travel but it is advised to all travelers to carry their visa grant letter with them while travelling as it will provide them easy to understand information about the conditions of the visa, information which was not always easy to find on Australian visa labels.
  • The visa fees should be paid as bank draft in favor of, “Australian High Commission” payable at New Delhi. Other payment option is available at VFS Visa Application Centre (Only in India) in cash, at a service charge of INR 57 (inclusive of all taxes) per application.

Seamen Visa

Applicants doesn’t need to submit their original passports now, as along with the Visa application with the introduction of Label free Visa regime when applying through one of the VFS Global Australian Visa Application Centers across India or Nepal or lodging directly with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, will no longer be required to submit their passport with their visa application. They will be required to submit a notary attested copy of each used page of their passport at the time of application.

The notary attested copy of the passport must include the following pages:

  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of the bio-data page of the current passport;
  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of any endorsement page or change of name page in the current passport;
  • For current Indian passports – good quality notary attested photocopy of the back page with information on parents’ names and previous passports.
  • Applicants not providing the above mentioned documents, their visa application will be delayed in the processing.
  • Sea Crew arriving in Australia should hold a Maritime Crew Visa (MCV).
  • A fine of AUD$ 5000 will be issued to the Ship’s Master or Agent for every foreign crew member in breach of the requirement. In addition, the crew will be restricted to the vessel while in Australia.

Crew arriving before 1st January, 2008: Those who don’t hold an MCV and have not departed before 1 January 2008 are allowed to remain in Australia officially as the Special Purpose Visa remains valid until their departure. On leaving Australia, they should apply for the MCV.

Crew traveling to Australia by air: The MCV is not valid for travel to Australia by air. Crews traveling by air need another visa, like an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), Transit Visa, Tourist Visa, or Short Say Business visa to join their ship. They must also hold an MCV to sign onto the ship.

  • If a visa is granted, the visa holder will be provided a visa grant letter explaining the conditions of the visa including period of validity and entrance necessities.
  • The visa grant letter is not necessary to facilitate travel but we would advise all our clients to carry their visa grant letter with them while travelling as it will provide them easy to understand information about the conditions of the visa, information which was not always easy to find on Australian visa labels.

Transit Visa (Sub Class 771) (876)

Applicants doesn’t need to submit their original passports now along with the Visa application with the introduction of Label free Visa regime when applying through one of the VFS Global Australian Visa Application Centers across India or Nepal or lodging directly with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, will no longer be required to submit their passport with their visa application. They will be required to submit a notary attested copy of each used page of their passport at the time of application.

The notary attested copy of the passport must include the following pages:

  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of the bio-data page of the current passport;
  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of any endorsement page or change of name page in the current passport;
  • For current Indian passports – good quality notary attested photocopy of the back page with information on parents’ names and previous passports.
  • Applicants not providing the above mentioned documents, might face a delay in visa processing.
  • One visa form (Sub Class 771) Form no. 876 and 956.
  • One recent passport-size photograph.
  • A covering letter from the Applicant / Company.
  • Completed incoming passenger card (will be available on ship / aircraft prior to arrival).
  • Complete Travel itinerary and confirmed onward booking in a third country within 72 hours of arrival.
  • Visa for entry to third country (if required).
  • Processing time is 3 to 5 working days.
  • Visa will be issued Gratis (Free of charge).
  • VFS Service charge – Rs. 966

Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601)

Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) is an electronically stored right to go to Australia for a short stay. The purpose of the stay can be tourism or business for up to 3 months. For each ETA applicant, only an AUD20 service fee is to be paid for an online application. It is given to passport holders of more than 30 countries, regions and locations.

ETA allows you entering Australia as many times as you want for up to 12 months if you are:

  • A tourist
  • Travelling for business purposes
  • Your maximum stay in Australia can be up to 3 months during each visit.
  • The ETA is an automatically stored authority for travel to Australia. You should be out of Australia while applying and when it is granted.
  • An ETA is linked by machine to your passport. It can be checked by staff at airlines, travel agencies and Australian border agencies.

  • Fill your application online: Applicants can apply for this ETA online at Electronic Travel Authority if they hold a citizen passport from one of the following countries:

Brunei

Canada

Hong Kong (SAR)

United States.

  • After submitting application, the department gives a Transaction Reference Number (TRN). Keep its record to follow the progress of the application.
  • Applicant will need your passport, email address and a credit card to pay the application charge while applying.

Note: Passport holders of Taiwan can apply through an approved ETA travel agent in Taiwan. If they are outside Taiwan, they can apply for an ETA at their closest Australian visa office.

Student Visa (157 A)

Applicants doesn’t need to submit their original passports now along with the Visa application with the introduction of Label free Visa regime when applying through one of the VFS Global Australian Visa Application Centers across India or Nepal or lodging directly with the Australian High Commission in New Delhi, will no longer be required to submit their passport with their visa application. They will be required to submit a notary attested copy of each used page of their passport at the time of application.

The notary attested copy of the passport must include the following pages:

  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of the bio-data page of the current passport;
  • Good quality notary attested photocopy of any endorsement page or change of name page in the current passport;
  • For current Indian passports – good quality notary attested photocopy of the back page with information on parents’ names and previous passports.
  • Applicants not providing the above mentioned documents with their visa application may find delay in the processing of their visa application may delay.
  • Electronic Confirmation of Enrolment or Completed Acceptance Advice for Secondary Exchange Students (AASES) form
  • These copies should include a photocopy of the bio-data page and any page showing endorsements or change of name. For current Indian passports a good quality photocopy of the back page with information on parents’ names and previous passports. The passport photocopies do not need to be certified.
  • Form 157A Application to visit Australia for on a Student (temporary) Visa,
  • If Applicant wants someone else to get communication regarding the application from the department, he has to provide Form 956 Appointment of a Migration Agent or Exempt Agent or Other Authorized Recipient.
  • Recent passport photo with head and shoulders only, clicked against a plain background.
  • Proof of relationship between members of the family unit certificates, like Certified or Notarized copies of birth, and Marriage Certificates (Including of those who are not joining the Applicant in Australia)
  • If married, proof of the wedding including wedding photos, marriage certificate, or proof of joint ownership of assets/finances.
  • Financial documents, including evidences of funds held on loan and/or scholarship and proof of income.
  • Copies of academic documents such as certificates, degrees, diplomas and academic transcripts.
  • For students under 18 years, confirmation of wellbeing and consent arrangements (see //www.immi.gov.au/students/students/chooser/index.htm and follow the links to the relevant checklist).
  • For original documents that are to be returned, provide copies and place the originals in a separate envelope.
  • Student Applicants should apply for Visa between 8 weeks and 3 months prior to course commencement dates. Some applications take longer time to process. Students may be asked to take on additional medicals and some delays may be experienced because of verifying bank or education documents.
  • English proficiency (for subclasses, 570, 572, 573, 574 and 575):
  • IELTS certificate, or Valid proof of sponsorship by your Government or the Australian Government, or
  • Evidence of sponsorship by multilateral agency (Ex- World Bank)
  • If a visa is then granted, the visa holder will be issued with a visa grant letter that will explain the conditions of the visa including period of validity and entrance necessities.
