Goa is all set to celebrate ‘Patolleanchem Fest’
If you love trying out new dishes, then you should definitely not miss the chance to grab a bite of the Pattoleos in Goa this weekend. The Goan sweet Patolleo is a sweet made of jaggery and rice encased in a turmeric leaf. Goa, the most colorful and vibrant state celebrates “Patolleanchem Fest”a unique festival honouring the dish Patolleo.
This Fest coincides with the Feast of Our Lady of Assumption and Indian Independence Day every year. The festival takes place on the grounds of the Our Lady of Socorro Church in the Bardez Taluka of North Goa. It is celebrated by preparing and distributing the Patolleos among the villagers. Visitors are then treated to fabulous Goan fare and various performances by the locals and artistes.
Guests are also given a share of the homemade Patolleo’s that are traditionally distributed on this day. Various stalls are also put up displaying a variety of local handicrafts and wares. The ubiquitous Goan brass band also graces the occasion with vibrant Konkani favourites and catchy tunes. The festival is also revived with its theme song ‘Patoleanchem Fest’. The tagline of the festival is to, ‘say no to alcohol, plastic, sponsorship, competition, prizes, and moreover no chief guests!’
The ‘Patoleanchem Fest’, of course, is not complete without its traditional lunch, which witnesses huge crowd to taste sample the flavours of Goa. The patolleo’s and ‘puddes’, prepared by locals, are also savoured.
