Heathrow stars in new Channel 4 programme: Arrivals

The warmth of a welcome home has been captured in a new Channel 4 television programme ‘Arrivals’, filmed exclusively at Heathrow.

The one-hour programme, narrated by Julie Walters, is a refreshingly warm and intimate insight into the lives of some of the thousands of people travelling across the world as they pass through the arrivals halls of Heathrow’s four terminals. With over 75 million passengers arriving from 84 countries every year, over 1,000 people arrive at Heathrow each day simply to give their friends and family a heartfelt greeting.

RDF Television West spent several weeks in four of the airports terminals, waiting to capture the varied stories and events of those passing through. The captivating, surprising, heart-warming and often heart-breaking stories are told through the eyes of passengers and their waiting loved ones, all uniting under the same roof.

The documentary gets under the skin of airport ‘people-watching’ and reveals the incredible and momentous life stories that people have to share. From long-lost friendships to newly found romance, ‘Arrivals’ is a captivating and honest exploration of love and life at the UK’s biggest airport.

Heathrow Filming Manager Rachel Betts said: “Arrivals really captures that ‘Love Actually’ atmosphere that is present in the arrivals hall, abuzz with people waiting for their loved ones. “We hope viewers will recognise that exciting feeling of being greeted by someone they love and enjoy hearing the varied and interesting stories of the many that do the same every day.”

The programme was commissioned by Dom Bird, head of formats at Channel 4.
