Sabre names Cem Tanyel to lead Airline Solutions
Sabre Corporation has named Cem Tanyel as Sabre executive vice president and president of Airline Solutions, effective 10 September and reporting to Travel Solutions President Dave Shirk.
Tanyel is a seasoned technology leader having held executive roles in product development, professional services and industry solutions general management over a career spanning more than 25 years. Most recently he served as executive vice president and general manager of professional services at Kony, the leader in mobile application development and digital solutions serving the financial services, healthcare and travel industries. Prior to that, Tanyel was senior vice president of consulting and professional services at Cognizant; vice president and general manager of global healthcare and life sciences software and solutions at CSC; senior vice president of product development for health systems at McKesson; and vice president and general manager of industry applications and solutions – including the travel and transportation industry – at Unisys. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from Middle East Technical University, a Master of Science degree in computer science from the University of Maryland, and a Master of Business Administration degree from San Jose State University.
“Cem has broad, multi-discipline experience delivering world class technology solutions to customers across a variety of industries, along with a leadership style that will energize the Airline Solutions team,” said Shirk. “Having worked very closely with Cem at Kony and CSC, I know firsthand that he brings the management expertise, portfolio management acumen, results-driven processes and client focus that will continue to drive revenue for our airline customers through the technology we provide.”
Sabre announced in July that Shirk was elevated to Sabre executive vice president and president of Travel Solutions – a newly created organization that includes Travel Network, Airline Solutions, Beyond NDC and data and analytics solutions across the business units – leaving open his previous role as president of Airline Solutions.
“Sabre’s leadership position in the marketplace has always been driven by its commitment to innovation, which was immediately attractive to me in pursuing this role,” said Tanyel. “It seems the travel industry is at an inflection point with regard to technology, and Sabre is uniquely positioned to lead an evolution as it builds the most advanced travel platform in the world. It will be a pleasure to work with Dave again and to join such an exciting organization as we lead the evolution from within.”
