With gently sloping hills draped with lush Alpine meadows, high mountain valleys, mighty glaciers, glistening lakes and romantic landscape, there are several activities, attractions and events in the Engadin Valley that a family can partake in together.
Pumptrack Cuntschett, Pontresina
The new Cuntschett Pumptrack is located in the vicinity of the Pontresina railway station, accessible within minutes on mountain bike or foot and is suitable for riders of any age. It offers a number of riding options over a total distance of 350 metres. The Pumptrack made of 200 cubic metres of concrete is open daily from May through October. Bikes and protective gear are available for rent at the Pontresina Sports bike shop located opposite the Pumptrack.
Windsurfing
St. Moritz and the Lakes in the Engadin region are favourable for windsurfing and kitesurfing due to the strong Majola wind. While expert and advanced surfers set their sails in Lake Silvaplana, families and beginners find perfect conditions in Lake Sils. Travellers prefer surfing after midday according to the flow of the wind and before that guests take advantage of the calm and serene surroundings by enjoying stand-up paddle boating, swimming or Yoga by the lakes.
Theme Trails
Among the countless paths that make Engadin St. Moritz a paradise for hikers are the many varied theme trails. These offer fascinating insights into local history, traditional customs and the way of life in the Engadin – as well as the unspoilt natural landscapes, wildlife, and themes such as renewable energy, among many others. Some of the trails are namely Bare-foot Trail that leads you through the forest area, butterfly trail, Segantini Trail that offers an insight to the artist’s life among a lot more. The numerous walks give parents a wonderful opportunity to encourage children to learn in a fun-filled way.
Alpine Cheese Show Dairy Morteratsch
The Morteratsch Alpine cheese dairy is rustic, authentic and cozy and caters to guests from mid-June to end of October from 9am to 5pm daily. Guests can experience cheese-making as it happens right in front of your eyes. Traditional show cheese-making generally starts at 9.30am and 1.30pm. Guests can also enjoy a vast spread of the Alpine Brunch served daily from Tuesday to Sunday between 9.30am and 11.30am (not available Mondays). Bookings are accepted until 5pm the day before.
Pontresina Rope Park
Both, children and adults enjoy the high-rope challenge course in Pontresina. With its series of platforms linked by rope bridges, zip wires, wobbly beams and various obstacles, offers exciting challenges for agile and sure-footed visitors over the age of four. Children under the age of 13 are only admitted to the park if they are accompanied by an adult. Visitors are given expert instruction, equipped with safety equipment and assessed on a test route. Those who pass the test are then free to swing and climb to their heart’s content. Prices start from CHF 15 for children and CHF 35 for adults including hire of safety equipment.
Lake Sils: Cruising at The Highest Level
At exactly 1,800 metres above sea level, Europe’s highest scheduled boat service links Sils Maria, Chastè, Plaun da Lej, Isola and Maloja. Along the way, it glides past historic sites such as the Chastè peninsula – here, under the larch trees, stands the bench where the philosopher and poet Friedrich Nietzsche used to sit and find inspiration. The entire round trip on the largest lake in Graubünden takes 40 minutes. This boat service has been operating for over one hundred years.
