SriLankan Airline’s new codeshare with Mihin Lanka to boost tourism from Kolkata

SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka recently announced a code share agreement with Mihin Lanka for the operations of flights between Kolkata and Colombo.

A special introductory fare to Colombo marked this agreement beginning from the 17th of June. With the commencement of the new codeshare with Mihin Lanka, SriLankan Airlines continues to build seamless connectivity from their hub in Colombo across various regions in India, expanding on its codeshare and direct operations to and from 11 cities in India, creating new travel options for the business traveller and holidaymakers from Kolkata to access Sri Lanka delivering a boost for local tourism. SriLankan Airlines currently operates 86 flights per week to India with direct daily frequencies to the 07 cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Trichy, Trivandrum and Kochi. The two state owned airlines of Sri Lanka namely the national carrier SriLankan Airlines and Mihin Lanka’s latest codeshare agreement complements existing codeshares to other Indian routes such as Madurai, Varanasi and Gaya. The flights from Kolkata will be operated thrice weekly by Mihin Lanka every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The scheduled days of the flights are based on the Kolkata traveller’s convenience, and will facilitate greater access to Colombo on Mihin Lanka, and affording seamless connections with SriLankan Airline’s convenient schedules to key destinations in Europe, Middle East and the Far East. The promotional introductory offer also extends to the Maldives, with a stopover in Colombo. The aircraft servicing this route will be Mihin Lanka’s Airbus 319 and A321 that boasts of business and economy class service, and renowned Sri Lankan hospitality. Launched in 1979, SriLankan is currently expanding and further diversifying its wide range of products and services in order to drive the country’s ongoing boom in tourism and economic development. SriLankan Airlines is a member of the oneworld alliance, which has been recognised as the ‘World’s Best Airline Aliance 2015’ by Skytrax for the third year in succession. The airline also celebrated its first anniversary as a member of oneworld on the 1st of May. The airlines’ hub is located at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo, providing convenient connections to its global route network of 95 destinations in 44 countries (including codeshare operations) in Europe, the Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Far East, North America, Australia and Africa.
