TAT launches new tourist getaways

TAT has a slew of lesser-known destinations lined up for travel bugs and special offers for Senior Citizens.

For women travellers with a persistent sense of wanderlust and intending to explore Thailand, here’s a piece of exciting news for them. Tourism Authorityo f Thailand (TAT) is into promoting solo women travellers of India to plan out their tours to Thailand.

Runjuan Tongrut, Director, TAT, New Delhi office explained, “We are facilitating women travel groups to design trips for women travellers. We are looking at pan- India tourist market. The most number of Indian tourists travel to Thailand from New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. India constitutes the sixth largest source market for Thailand and Indian visitors are third highest overseas spenders in Thailand.”

TAT has set its agenda to popularize the seaside town of Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi and Ayutthaya for Bengal tourists. Tongrut said, “We want to introduce Ayutthaya as a heritage and cultural destination and Kanchanburi as an eco-tourist hotspot replete with tiger temples. The fascinating destinations of Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi and Ayutthaya can be travelled by car from Bangkok. For Indian travel bugs, we have some new destinations like the beach resort of Koh Chang in the east coast in Trat district of Thailand, Chiang Mai and the beach resort of Rayong, an hour journey from Pattaya.”

TAT is all set to come up with free medical check-up packages for the Senior Citizens of India sometime this year. Tongrut added, “The Senior Citizens on their way to Bangkok can go for free medical check-ups. More than 1 million Indian visitors have made it to Thailand last year. We are hopeful to have around 1.5 million Indian tourist footfalls in the existing year and around 20 per cent tourists would be from West Bengal.”

Recent initiatives of TAT:

• To facilitate solo women travellers from India.

• New destinations like Koh Chang, Chiang Mai and Rayong introduced in the Indian tourist market.

• Free medical check-up for Senior Citizens of India in Bangkok.
