Vistara to launch first island flights
Vistara will launch its first flights beyond the Indian mainland later this year, connecting to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Effective 30 September 2016, the airline will commence services from Delhi to Port Blair, the capital of the Indian island territory, via Kolkata.
Flights will operate daily, departing Delhi at 0720 and arriving in Port Blair at 1230, including a 45-minute stop in Kolkata. The return services will then leave Port Blair at 1325 and arrive back in Delhi at 1850, with a 40-minute stop in Kolkata. Like all Vistara flights, the new route will be operated using a three-class Airbus A320 aircraft.
“The Andaman & Nicobar Islands are increasingly becoming popular leisure destinations in India. The islands offer history, culture, water sports, and natural beauty including some of the best beaches in Asia,” said Phee Teik Yeoh, CEO of Vistara.
“Our new route offers direct daily service to Port Blair from Kolkata as well as a one-stop Delhi-Port Blair-Delhi service via Kolkata. With these new services we strive towards enhancing regional connectivity to a location where air connectivity is vital for the economy.”
Vistara only recently launched flights between Delhi and Kolkata, and these twice daily services will now be increased to three daily flights with the launch of the new route.
