India’s first Air Ambulance service launched in Hyderabad
City-based Wings Aviation private Limited has introduced Air Amublance Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), in the city, first of its kind in the country. The private air ambulance service conducted a mock drill at Exhibition Grounds, Nampally here today, to mark the launch. Chairman of Wings Aviation, Y. Prabhakar Reddy, speaking to the media on the occasion, said that to begin with it has only one aircraft , but it will serve the two Telugu States and neighbouring States such as Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Karnataka as well, he said.
The company plans to charge Rs 1.50 lakh per hour for the AIR-AID service. The chopper can fly for 450 km non-stop, after which it would need a refuel. Hyderabad is strategically placed for an air ambulance to serve most parts of the country, and the service will be expanded to Southern States first and eventually to the Northern States. The chopper is sufficiently equipped with emergency medical gear to handle cases of highway accidents, cardiac trauma, orthopedic emergencies and organ transplants, Reddy added.
Wings Aviation has trained more than 1500 commercial pilots and AMEs serving various airlines across the globe. ‘Wings Aviation has a fleet of 12 fixed wing aircrafts (for joyride, charter service) and we have a NSOP license. It’s our humble gesture to redefine the Emergency Medical services by introducing Air Ambulance Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). By setting the standards of efficient, safe and socio economical’.
Air-Aid is very beneficial for patient transfers from rural/remote areas, Police, government officials, business people, shifting of organs for critical patients where inadequate medical service are available to the full fledge hospitals by cutting down the travel time and having last mile connectivity. This service would prominently support all types of accidents, cardiac and trauma, Ortho patients, burns, and organ transplants.
The Air-Aid(HEMS) service will be available from Begumpet airport 24/7. We also have a team of 24/7 call centers at our corporate office located at Begumpet airport to attend the customer queries.
